Mrs. Walters' News
Dear Bushnell Elementary Families,
One month down folks! Things are going really well at Bushnell. Thank you to our families for doing such a great job masking up your children and sending them to school! It means so much to all of us that you trust us with your little ones. I am so happy every day we get to be together!
IT'S SPIRIT WEEK NEXT WEEK!!! We hope your kiddo will participate with us as we partner with our community to celebrate homecoming as a Red Arrow!
Monday- Silly Sock Day
Tuesday- Jersey/Sports Day
Wednesday- Beach/Hawaiian Day
Thursday- Favorite Color Day
Friday- Red Arrow Day
At the beginning of the year there is no shortage of assessments and evaluations that occur. Your children will be assessed on early literacy skills as well as math concepts to determine if any intervention services should be offered. At Bushnell we have 3 reading interventionists, 1 math interventionist, and 1 Americorps reading service provider. We are very fortunate to have a system that targets specific skills in need for our students!
Conferences are coming up in October. You will be receiving information from your child's teacher regarding your choice of in person versus virtual conference format. A schedule will also be sent for appointment sign ups from the teacher.
A couple reminders- When calling your child in for an absence due to illness, please identify symptoms or you will receive a call back from us to gather that information. Also- there are NO parents allowed to drive to the back of the building during pick up time. This is a very busy area with KISD busing, staff exiting, and children walking with parents to be picked up. Please respect this rule.
Birthday treats- we are only allowing pre-packaged birthday treats at this time. Thank you!
Next week we will kick off our "Day of Awesomeness" fundraiser! I'm really excited and hope you and your family will participate! This fundraiser will help to purchase playground equipment, student celebration materials, classroom technology, PBIS prizes for our treasure boxes and classroom books. Look for more information next week!
Do you have a child birth to age 4 at home? Check out this website for information about how to become part of a learning network for your child! https://www.kentisd.org/early-childhood/bright-beginnings/
We continue to celebrate how well the children are doing with their bear necessities of being respectful, responsible and safe! Through positive reinforcement, the children are earning Bushnell Bear Bucks (green tickets) they will use to pick items out of a treasure box once they earn 20!
Speaking of the treasure box, we could use donations of small items to include. Stickers, trinkets, happy meal toys, miniature slimes/playdough, etc. You are welcome to drop items at the office and they are always appreciated!
We could also use donations of new masks (we go through lots!), children's underwear, children's pants for both boys and girls, socks and even gently used shoes! It's always good for us to be prepared if a kiddo has an accident.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Erin Walters
Bushnell Elementary Principal
