HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 9 - 15 September
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was great that so many could enjoy the carnival with us today. Rob Flexman our specialist teacher of Physical Education has done an awesome job of arranging today, and is to be congratulated! Many parents assisted us today and like last week’s Lapathon, we could not have done it without you. Thank you!!
Next week, the last week of term, is a short one for the children. They finish on Wednesday. We have a whole school mass at 9am celebrated by our new priest Father Peter Hoang. It would be fantastic to see a big contingent of parents and friends there to welcome him. Then later in the day hopefully you will be able to make it to one or both of our MusicaViva! Concerts. The concerts are a culmination of the music programme taught by Michelle Kirwan and we’d love to see you involved!
Check out the First Holy Communion report in the Parent Community News.
Have a great weekend

CONDOLENCES
I am very sad to inform you that Andrew Gray, father of Thomas in Year Five, and Darcy and Amy in high school, passed away last night. Andrew was one of the first parents I met on my arrival to Holy Rosary, and my thoughts at the time were that, if all parents here were like that, our school was a fortunate place indeed. We extend our sympathy and our love to Sue and the children. Rest in Peace Andrew.

As we approach the end of Term, there are still many families with outstanding school fee accounts. Please make every effort to pay these as soon as possible. If you are experiencing difficulty with the payment of fees please contact the School Office on 9203 4500.

HOLY ROSARY PARENT COMMUNITY NEWS
Holy Rosary Community (P&F) 2018.
A planning meeting is scheduled for 6.15 pm in the staff room on Tuesday October 10, the first Tuesday of term four. The purpose of this meeting, which is scheduled before the School Board meeting at 7pm, is to start the conversation about 2018, to review our school’s annual ‘Wish List’, to ask for any other ideas, and to then consider what is reasonable, and what the best way forward could be to make the ideas a reality. It is the first time we have planned this far in advance and is a fantastic opportunity to come along and to contribute to the future of the Holy Rosary Community. The suggestions will then be put forward at our next full P&F meeting later in October (the24th) See you there!

Huge fun at the Lap-a-thon
Holy Rosary’s Lap-a-thon last Friday was awesome! With kids swarming around the oval, parents frantically stamping lap cards and Mr T pumping out the tunes, it was high on energy and big on fun. Thanks to all the parent helpers, supporters and teachers; to Lacey’s Gym for their support; and a HUGE thank you to Michelle Della Franca and her team for their vision and energy in pulling this off. Well done to the kids for all the laps – all proceeds are going towards the contemporary classrooms.

KELLY DI FRANCESCO - MISS MARY SEWING CLASSES
GET to know..Kelly Di Francesco
What do you do?
For 8.5 years now I have been teaching sewing and dressmaking to adults and children. Absolute Beginners to intermediate sewers. Many people have never plugged a machine in before seeing me. I teach people who need a creative outlet, to make whatever is of interest to them, whether it be kids clothing, clothing for themselves, items for the house, you name it we make it! I also draft my own patterns so students can make simple items which are beginner friendly.
What cheers you up?
Walks along the coast with AC/DC pumping through my headphones or time to crochet & knit.
West Coast or Freo?
West Coast for sure! Sending winning vibes for this weekend!
Fav subject at school?
Sewing of course! Although I remember talking more in class than actually sewing.
Have you ever danced in the rain?
Oh yes! It’s a rule in our house, when it rains you go outside to play in the rain, dance and jump in puddles. Then finish off with a hot shower (we've never caught a cold doing this btw)
Tell us about your sewing classes. What is coming up?
- As far as up and coming classes:
- I have kids classes every school holidays.
- Absolute Beginner sewing courses for adults during the school term.
- Sewing Group classes for those who have a very basic knowledge of sewing and need help with particular skills or patterns they are working on.
- I have specific skill based workshops also available over the next couple of months.
These groups run fortnightly so don't interfere too much with family life.
I have a craft retreat being organised at the moment that I am so excited to share soon. It is unlike any other retreat!
Classes are run from my bright, open, clean, home studio in Balcatta where there is plenty of parking available.
I even sell sewing machines, so can assist for every budget. I stock the best tools of the trade.
Library News
Holy Rosary celebrated Australian Reading Hour yesterday in style! Thank you to the beautiful yr 2’s, their families and teachers for a wonderful morning in our library sharing stories. It was magnificent to see!! 4C also started their day with books and 6D and many other classes around the school fitted reading into their day. With school holidays coming up, students are encouraged to borrow books to take home and read for enjoyment. It’s also the perfect time to return those overdues and borrowed library bags to the library ready for term 4. It’s going to be a busy last 2 days at school next week, so if library lessons are missed, students are welcome to borrow before school or at lunchtime on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Happy Holidays!

PARISH NEWS
A New Rosary Care Initiative – Adult Disability Coordinator
Danny brings Alan to Sunday Mass.
New to our parish within the last two years, we discovered Danny. His dedication is to working with disabled adults so we invited him to sit in on our coordinator meetings to see how we could support him in reaching out to disabled adults in our community. With great enthusiasm and his prior knowledge he soon discovered three “Group Houses” in our community but now suspects there may be up to 15. Through his net working with people from other parishes he heard of a resident in one of the local group houses, who had expressed a desire to attend Sunday Mass. Danny visited the house to introduce Rosary Care, as a volunteer organisation which could offer some assistance and friendship to their residents.
After a month or so of negotiations with the management of one group house, he was accredited to be a volunteer to bring Alan to Mass. Alan delights in bringing up the gifts, joining in the responses and receiving Holy Communion as well as meeting parishioners.
How can we support Danny? Rosary Care needs other volunteers who would be willing to work with disabled adults from group houses in our area. Such tasks may include bringing someone to Mass, simple outings, such as going to a local park or having a coffee. Our aim is to gather and train a small group of volunteers to share this work. If you would like to try this kind of volunteering please contact one of our coordinators listed below.

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process for those who are not Catholic and would like to know more about our faith and practice. It is also for Catholics who have been baptised but not received the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation and may wish to continue their faith journey.
It is best described as a journey of faith which passes through a number of different phases and focuses on conversation of the heart and mind on our way to accepting Jesus Christ in our daily lives.
The meetings will commence on Tuesday 10th October in the Parish Office at 7.30–9.00pm. For further information, please email the Pastoral Associate, Kaye Shervington -
