RAISE CRAZE: The Kindness Walk
It's that time of year again...RAISE CRAZE: The Kindness Walk!! Raise Craze is a unique way for us to raise money while helping our community. We ask our friends and family for donations and, as a way of thanking those donors, pay it forward by performing acts of kindness for others in our community. If you haven't already done so, please set up your child's Raise Craze website HERE to choose acts of kindness for your child to complete within the next two weeks. You will also be able to send emails out to your friends and family members and ask for donations. This year, we are hoping to raise $30,000.00. As of 9/27/18 we have raised $19, 781.96!!! In keeping with tradition, our fundraiser will end with a celebratory Kindness Walk on Friday, October 5, 2018!
- Even if you missed the deadline to create a website by 9/21, students can still earn squishies by sending out emails, completing 5 ACTS OF KINDNESS, and getting 5 donations!
- We’ve added another Act of Kindness! Starting this week, we will be collecting loose change for those impacted by Hurricane Florence. Kids can bring loose change to school and their teachers will have collection jars in each classroom. All of money collected will be sent to the Red Cross for Hurricane Florence victims.
STUDENTS VOTED and if we reach our goal of $30,000 - they will turn me into a HUMAN SUNDAE!

News From the Art Room
Right now, the art room is working on the fundraiser Square One Art. You can ask your child about this project. Information will be coming home in the future!
Kindergarten: We start every class with a book! And then we create a work of art based on the book. We are currently exploring materials and focusing on triangles and circles.
First Grade: In First Grade, the students are working on proper use of materials. We have started our tree unit focusing on our Fall tree.
Second Grade: The Second Graders are focusing on patterns and reinforcing our knowledge of the use of a variety of materials.
Third Grade: Our Third Graders are working on learning all about the elements and principles of design. This will take us through December as we explore a variety of materials. This weeks focus: line and shape.
Fourth Grade: Fourth Graders are working on learning about geometric shapes in architecture. They are designing a home using ONLY geometric shapes.
Fifth Grade: The Fifth Graders are learning about environmental art and are working on painting the chairs in the art room! So far, so good!!

News from the Music Room
September brought all kinds of learning and fun to our class. Kindergartners have explored steady beat, fast vs. slow, and loud vs. soft. They can even tell you about the music words piano and forte! First graders have learned about solo singing vs. group singing with some call and response activities. We also learned about ostinato, which is a repeated pattern that creates harmony! Second graders have been learning about other patterns in music that show musical form. We have played some fun games and have done some fun dances to show what we have learned! Third graders have been working hard learning the names of the lines and spaces on the staff. This will be very important when we get our recorders after winter break! Fourth graders have sung in harmony in several different ways: ostinato, round, and partner songs! Fifth graders learned about a new musical form: cumulative! We also have explored syncopation and a new time signature: 6/8.
October is one of our favorite months because there are so many great Halloween songs to enhance our curriculum.
Kindergartners will be doing some songs to practice singing skills. We will be moving to the music to act out what we will be for Halloween, and we will be learning the difference between steady beat and the way the words go!
First graders are learning the difference between major and minor music with Halloween songs. Some of our songs are in both major and minor keys!
Second graders will learn the importance of singing piano and forte at appropriate times and how it changes how a song feels. We will also continue learning why a song may be in a major key or in a minor key.
Third graders are going to be singing some solo call and responses to a new Halloween song. This one also has a crossover bordun and a round to create some double harmony.
Fourth graders are going to be doing a blues Halloween song with three part harmony through ostinato! Our harmonies will be both sung and played on barred instruments.
Fifth grade is waltzing through our Halloween music. In addition to learning about different dance types, we will be exploring AB form with first, second, third, and fourth endings! This happy Halloween song is the longest we’ve ever done in music class. We will also be composing our own ostinato patterns and a round to a spookier Halloween song. If we have time with all of this hard work, we will add a partner song element to create 7-part harmony!
