Better Together - One Body in Christ

This year's theme- "Better Together: One Body in Christ" - is inspired by Romans 12:5. Our goal as Christians is to love and lift each other up. We must focus our expectation on eternity and wait with patience and prayer for our Father to provide. So we, being many, are one body in Christ walking in fellowship together and serving one another. This year's theme helps us to focus directly on building a caring and welcoming Catholic community that is focused on relationships and honouring the dignity of all in following Christ's example in word and deed.

Leadership Message

Welcome to the second week of the 2022 - 2023 school year! There has been an exciting buzz in the air with students logging into their Canvas Classrooms & Google Meets to meet their classmates and teachers and stories of summer break are being shared. We would like to thank our staff, students, and parents for making the transition into the new school year unfold as smoothly as it has.

One of the many advantages of our online model is its flexibility, and to assist students in organizing their school work we recommend creating a schedule that is manageable and meets the needs of the students. Be sure to schedule in those Google Meets that their instructors have planned.

At the heart of the St.Isidore Learning Centre is the desire to support every student to achieve their level of success. We look forward to hearing your feedback and connecting with you through our upcoming Parent School Council meeting. We are so hopeful to be able to establish a St. Isidore Parent School Council this year. Our meeting will be virtual (on Zoom) to accomodate all as I know we are spread out all over the world. Mark your calendars for September15th, 6:30 PM (MST). Please email me to express your interest and to get the Zoom link. ALL ARE WELCOME! Please see the PDF attachment below my signature for more information. "SC Intro & Establishment Poster"

How to Powerschool Parent and Student

Accessing the Canvas Classroom

Your Canvas Classroom is your "Online Classroom". You will find all of your classes nicely organized for you there.

It is VERY Important... On the first day, log In to ensure all of your courses are there. Chesterton Students will only see their first semester course, that is ok! All other SILC students will see the courses they are currently taking.

Each class requires you to complete the first "quiz" or "questionnaire" THIS MUST BE COMPLETED FOR EVERY CLASS ON THE FIRST DAY. Yes, most of your answers will be the same, but it is important to complete this for every class so every teacher has the most accurate information for your education plan. St Isidore is a very unique and flexible environment and we do this so you have all of the flexibility and personalization you need. So, my friends, that is your very first job... Go in to every course and fill out the "Questionnaire" on Day 1!

What do you need before you begin?

  • Good Internet

  • Laptop or Computer or Chromebook - no iPhones, iPads, or tablets, Canvas is hard for student work on these.

  • Logging in every day and keeping up with your work!!!!! EVERY DAY!!!

  • Having troubles? ASK your teacher for help - do not be shy!

  • Still having troubles? Come in to the Centre or a virtual meeting with your teacher. Please don’t wait too long. We are here to help :)

  • Get in the habit of logging into your Powerschool Account regularly to check your marks. If deadlines pass, a mark of “zero” will be put in as a placeholder "MISSING" until you hand in your work. I cannot stress enough the importance of being diligent with your work! You must login using the same username and password that you use for your EICS gmail and your Canvas classroom: PowerSchool Login

  • If you were with EICS (even if you came from: ABJ, SAB, OLMP, or St. Mary) last year, your password is still the same. If you are new, you will be given a generic password that you must change immediately!

Are You New to SILC and EICS?

When you registered with SILC (EICS) you were assigned a six digit user number. Your parents set up their own account when they registered you and can find your number easily for you. If you are struggling, please email us or call 780-449-6463 and say, “Hello! I am a new student and need my 6 digit User Number to login please :)”

This is your student number that was assigned to you, and will stay with you as long as you are a student of EICS. PLEASE, do NOT share your 6 digit username or password with anybody as this is your security login in for your email and your course work in your Canvas Classroom. Allowing others into your account is a violation of the EICS Tech User Agreement

Students will work on web-based courses using our Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).

How to log on to your Canvas Classroom:

  1. **CLOSE & logout of all other Google/email/browser applications and start with a fresh Google Internet Browser. This means personal gmail accounts. Log out of EVERYTHING!

  2. In Google Chrome, open your EICS school email by heading to:

  3. Log in using your 6***** & password. Your username is your 6 digit EICS Student ID. If you are a returning student, your passwords will be the same as last year. If you are new ...The default password for your first login will be sent privately - YOU MUST CREATE A NEW PASSWORD and don’t forget it! If you ever need a password change, go to: Change Password

  4. Then, in a new Chrome tab, go to:

  5. You should see your SILC Canvas Dashboard with your classes there.

Please head to our website for up-to-date info:

PARENTS - Want to see how your children are progressing? You can download a Parent Observer App. Watch Mrs. Wright's video below.

SILC Exam Policy

Now that all Covid restrictions have been lifted, we are reverting back to the "pre-Covid" normal SILC world. What does that mean? That our Centre will be open to all of our students this year. Come by and meet with your teachers to get help with anything that you need! SILC students in grades 7-12 will be required to complete a Mid Term Exam and a Final Exam. These exams are mandatory and will be proctored to ensure student understanding and accurate assessment of curricular outcomes. There will be 3 modes to complete student Mid-Term and Finals:

  • In person at the Centre
  • Online through our proctor service "Proctorio"
  • Arranged with your teacher over a Google Meet

Any questions? Reach out to your teachers.

OLPH Parish Corner

Stay connected. Our parish makes it very easy for us all to attend. See the links below:

Sacramental Preparation:

Alll parents the deadline to join Fall preparation classes here at the church is September 7. This is for all grades: First Reconciliation/First Communion AND Confirmation.

OLPH parish has a Family Faith Formation approach to sacramental preparation, so we offer several dates and options throughout the school year to help busy parents choose a time that will work best for them to participate fully and actively with their child.

Specific Reminders for Classroom Teachers:

Grade 2-5: Students can register for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, which can be taken one right after the other. Three different sessions will be offered again this schools year, Fall, Winter or Spring. If a child has not been baptized yet, we will also work with that family on additional age appropriate preparation!

Grade 6-8: Students can register for Confirmation. The program at OLPH runs over 5 months and will be offered twice this year, in the first and second semester of the school year. If a student has not yet celebrated first communion or reconciliation, their preparation for those sacraments will be incorporated into their preparation for Confirmation so the child can be fully initiated.

Interest in volunteering at the church…can contact Natalie Lavigne at 780-467-5470 (ext 225) or email

Archdiocese News:

  1. Upfront with the Archbishop is the Edmonton Archdiocese’ new weekly podcast where we seek to bridge the gap between the hierarchy and the faithful by discussing the beauty, truth, and challenges of our Catholic faith. Archbishop Richard Smith and host Jenny Connelly discuss topics such as “Joy vs Pleasure: A Catholic Perspective on Alcohol”, “Vocations & Decisions: Does God Have Only One Will for My Life?” and “The Right Music for Mass.” The most recent episode was a fascinating discussion with indigenous priest Fr. Cristino Bouvette from Calgary (he was liturgical coordinator for the entire papal visit to Canada) about decisions made around the Papal liturgies and the elements of indigenous inculturation that happened, like smudging and praying in the four directions.
