CUSD is committed to creating safe, inclusive and respectful environments free from discrimination and harassment that promote the safety and affirmation of all students.*
CUSD recognizes the link between students’ social and cognitive development, and research has shown that a sense of belonging is core to academic success. CUSD views addressing students' need for belonging and value is central to successful teaching and learning.
CMS strives to foster social emotional learning, mindful self awareness and overall character in tandem with academic skills to support student’s ability to access learning. Within the context of the 8 Keys of Excellence and district wide character education events including Red Ribbon Week and the Great Kindness Challenge, the CMS T3 lessons provide opportunities for dialogue and connection. Within T3, students may encounter sensitive topics, and each T3 class has agreed upon ground rules for respectful discussions. T3 supports a culture of respect through encouraging student voice while celebrating each individual's identity.
This week's T3 lesson: T3 1/25/21 The Great Kindness Challenge
CMS is participating in the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), a health and well-being survey for 7th graders administered in partnership with the California Department of Education. The aim of the survey is to compile data about the student population to best understand the make-up and experience of the student body, evaluate programs that address student needs, and shape needed services. The survey is designed to gather trend data on key areas of health and behavioral risks, including alcohol, tobacco and drugs, and gain an understanding of individual student perceptions of their health & wellbeing, school safety and the learning environment.
For more information, http://chks.wested.org/ and https://calschls.org/about/the-surveys/#chks to review the survey and see the frequently asked questions. Please email CMS counseling office at email@example.com by 6:00am 1/25 only if you do NOT wish your child to participate in the survey. The survey will be administered to 7th graders during T3 on January 25, 2021.
