Refreshing New Year!

January 2019 (We can't be just good, We have to be GREAT!)

Message from Principal Suchocki

Happy New Year! I can not believe we are half way through the 2018-2019 school year. With a new year comes a fresh start to a new 9 Week Grading Period. Please don't forget the importance of starting your child's day off on a positive note before they head off to school for the day. Your child's education is the biggest investment you will ever make in their lives.

As we push forward through the second semester we will be placing an extra emphasis on your child's progress both through progress monitoring and running records. We will monitor and communicate with our families what direction we may be looking as your child moves closer to their next grade level.

On a great note, we are asking for even more help from our families because our students are like sponges. They are ready to soak in all of your attention. You are the KEY component to their growth! Here is what you can do:

  • PLEASE make sure your child is reading nightly (only 20 minutes.)
  • Make time to read with them or monitor their reading. Let them read aloud and follow along. Show them that you are invested in their growth with developing stronger skills for reading.
  • As for Math, invest 10 minutes a night and work on any skills they may need to strengthen or polish up on. If you have any questions ask their teacher.

As I say often, if we work together as a team and show our students we are team players, we will be unstoppable.

iLearn Parent Information

This school year we are preparing our 3rd-5th Grade students with transitioning from the ISTEP to the new iLearn State-Wide assessment. Here are the grade level assessments:

3rd - English/Language Arts and Math

4th - English/Language Arts, Math, and Science

5th - English/Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies

The new iLearn Assessments are computer-adaptive assessments adapt to each student’s mastery of the content throughout the assessment. Every time a student answers a question, his or her response helps determine the next question presented. The difficulty of the test will adjust to each student’s skills, providing a better measure of what each student knows and can do.

Weekly Student Attendance Incentive (PERFECT ATTENDANCE)

Great NEWS!

Each week any students that have perfect attendance will be placed in a drawing for having perfect attendance for that week.

We are taking our student's attendance very seriously. Again, Yes, each week selected students' names are drawn out and they receive a McDonald's gift card and other tokens of appreciation. Thank you Mrs. Tanksley and Mrs. Cartwright for taking lead on this.
