Forward Testing Information
All virtual students will need to come to school on Wednesday, April 28th for Forward testing. 8th grade virtual students will finish their testing on Thursday, April 29th.
In-person assessment is the only viable method for the state assessments. The company who produces the test has no virtual testing option available. Proctored, on-site testing ensures standardized administration that includes equitable access to technology and optimal testing environments, test security, and validity.
We are taking every precaution to ensure a safe testing environment. We are following safety guidelines including social distancing when possible, flexible schedules and the frequent sanitization of student spaces and equipment.
During testing days, students should bring the following items: fully charged district-issued Chromebook, charger, and earbuds. Smartwatches should remain home, as students cannot wear them during testing. Cell phones should remain at home or will need to be turned off and given to their teacher to hold during testing.

Counselor Update
April brings a lot of joy! The counseling department is excited to support 5th grade students and families as they begin thinking of the upcoming transition to the middle school. We are also thrilled to be spending time in classrooms working on conflict resolution skills through restorative practices (see the visual), mindfulness, and self-awareness. In addition, the wonderful WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) team is seeking 7th grade students (soon to be 8th grade students) to share their voice and kindness with incoming 6th grade students for this summer through next school year. Please email Ms Gleason at gleasonm@mpsd.school if your child is interested.
SWIRL- A School Goal
The Washington Middle School goal is to improve our students' literacy skills by creating an opportunity for every student, every day, in every class to practice the skills of Speaking, Writing, Interacting, Reading and Listening- SWIRL.
We are excited to continue to share SWIRL in every advisory classroom, every Thursday. We are all watching a video of a community member talking to our students about how they use the skills of SWIRL in their careers. Our goal is for students to see SWIRL in many sorts of jobs- letting them know that SWIRL is a part of their future.
Thank you to Pang Xiong Fricke for sharing her story about SWIRL with our students.
