MMA Montessori Moments
April 6-10 Distance Learning Continues- PHASE II
MMA Welcomes New Director, Mr. Micah Hirokawa
The Board of Directors is excited to announce the hiring of Micah Hirokawa as the new Director at Maria Montessori Academy.
Mr. Micah has an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership with an Administration emphasis, as well as 10 years of experience serving in a Senior Administrative role. He has 12 years of classroom experience in ages ranging from Pre-K through 12th grade and has devoted his life to learning design, inclusivity, differentiated methods, project-based learning, and education management.
Mr. Micah has traveled the Nation as a keynote presenter on platforms such as TEDxHonoluluEd, SUMMIT Innovation and Education, Schools of the Future, MISO, The National GRAMMY Foundation, and The Pacific Rim Conference and has publications through the University of Hawaii and the IB World Magazine. Currently, he is working directly with world-renowned educator’s Sir Ken Robinson and Ted Dintersmith on a project called, Boundless.
We are confident in Mr. Micah’s leadership abilities, and we look forward to working with him as he builds upon the foundation of quality education that we embrace at MMA.
We also want to sincerely thank Mr. Mike for his service to the school through this transition period that turned out to be much more turbulent than any of us could have imagined. His steady leadership has been invaluable. Mr. Mike will be with us for the remainder of this school year and work with Mr. Micah as we transition into the 2020-2021 school year.
Thank you for all that you’ve done to continue to support our students through the difficulties of the current school dismissal. We look forward to a strong ending to the current school year and a smooth transition going forward. We hope that you will all give Mr. Micah a warm Montessori welcome and that you will support him in continuing and building upon MMA’s strengths as a school.
Sincerely,
MMA Board of Directors
Updated Office Hours
Setting Up the Environment at Home- Messages from the Instructional Coach- Ms. Nicoletta
Typically in school when we return back from a break- it is valuable and important to revisit and re-establish the norms that were in place before break. This will be the same for the home environment. Prior to Spring Break- we had eight days of distant learning in the home. During this time there was probably some sort of routine established, environment established- norms for learning at home. Please make sure to revisit what was established prior to break- this will help to transition back into continuous learning from home.
Prior to Spring Break we had sent out Phase II of Distant Learning from each level of learning: EC, LE, UE, JH and Specials. Please refer to these for your child's Distant Learning Phase II beginning this Monday, April 6.

Ms. Andrea's Counseling Corner
I hope this email finds you all safe and well. The last few weeks have been stressful, confusing, and uncertain for everyone, adults and children alike. I have actually been out of town dealing with a family situation for the past two weeks, so I apologize about not being in touch sooner. Now that I am back, I am available for consultation, support, and questions. I can do Zoom meetings with students (and parents), phone calls, email, and packets for social/emotional learning skills. I am also preparing some video lessons for different age levels and I will have information about how to access those in Maria Montessori Moments newsletter this Monday. My email address is: aeggett@mariamontessoriacademy.org. Please reach out if you would like to set up a meeting or have any concerns or anything that I can help you with.
