A Note from Dr. Burdett
Eagle Nation,
It was a joy to see the kids back at PHS! As of Friday, we have 4,053 AMAZING EAGLES at PHS. This gives us 4,053 opportunities each day to make a positive impact. Thank you for sending us your best and for entrusting us with your kids each day!
Prosper High School received an “A” on our State Accountability rating along with three Distinctions for Academic Growth, Post-Secondary Readiness, and Closing the Gaps. We are extremely proud of these achievements by our students and teachers. As you can see below, we had considerable growth for each indicator compared to last year and you can click on the link above for more details.
In addition to the achievements on STAAR, our students had equally impressive results on Advanced Placement (AP) exams and Dual Credit enrollment.
885 students took 1608 AP exams. The number of exams taken represents a 23% increase over last school year and reflects 25.6% of the student body taking at least one AP Exam.
77.2% of testers earned a qualifying score of 3 or better on all tests.
We increased our percentage of 4s and 5s (highest score) from 41.40% to 45% compared to last year.
We had a 65% increase in Dual Credit enrollment over Fall last year. Dual Credit allows our students to earn college credit while being a student at PHS.
Finally, in our first year in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A competition, we placed 11th out of over 250 other 6A high schools in the UIL Lone Star Cup for achievement in academics, athletics, and fine arts.
We celebrate our accomplishments on the STAAR tests, AP exams, Dual Credit enrollment, and the Lone Star Cup. However, our ultimate purpose is for our students to embody the five components of the Graduate Profile and graduate Prosper High School as good, productive citizens. We put a premium on this and have added banners in our hallways to show our priorities (see a few photos below).
We had a “soft opening” for dress code this week. However, we will strictly enforce the dress code beginning tomorrow. Please click this link and review the dress code on pp. 49-51.
On Friday morning, our Seniors came together at Old Prosper Stadium to kick off the year together (photo below). It was a great time of fellowship at the Senior Sunrise and was evidence of all that makes our student body that absolute best!
It was great to see so many people at Meet the Eagles to celebrate our students last night at Children’s Health Stadium. We hope to see you at more of student activities.
Please look at the calendar and see what you can attend. Our students would love to see you supporting them and noticing how our inputs are affecting our outcomes.
For Kids,
John
