NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK
It is National School Counseling Week and CHS appreciates Mrs. Kathy Baumann, Mr. Bruce Ireland, Mrs. Violet Nelson, Mr. Adam Nyswaner, Mr. Curtis Owen, Mrs. Connie Rice and Ms. Kirsten Wiley for the tremendous impact they have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. MYP CIVIC AWARENESS
Mrs. Judy Horgash and Mrs. Lisa Schwalger took 40 IB / MYP Government & Economics sophomores to meet with state representatives at the Capitol during the anti-vaping rally as guests of the American Heart Association. It was a great opportunity for our students to better understand the legislative process and encourage civic awareness.
ARCHERY STATE CHAMPION
Laurel Anderson, CHS Freshman, competed in the Arizona State Indoor Archery Championship Tournament January 25th and 26th at the Ben Avery Indoor Archery Range. She earned 1st place in the Cadet Women's Olympic Recurve Division and is the State Champion! Congratulations, Laurel!
OUTSTANDING WRESTLERS
Zach Espalin took 1st at the Flowing Wells Tournament and took 1st at the Brad Jones Invitational where he was also named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
Stefana Jelacic took 6th at Flowing Wells in the boys division and 5th at the Brad Jones Invitational in the boys division. She was also named Outstanding Female Wrestler of the tournament.
In addition to Zach and Stefana, the wrestling team had 4 additional placers at the Brad Jones Invitational: Anthony Rivera took 5th; Dalton Loyden took 4th; and Roscoe Garcia took 6th.
ALL-REGION HONOR BAND
Katarina Fenner and Marco Ramirez have been selected to perform with the All-Region Honor Band. They will perform at McClintock HS at 1:30pm on Saturday, February 15th. Congrats, Katarina and Marco!
ACADEMIC DECATHLON REGION COMPETITION
The CHS Academic Decathlon Regional Team competed January 31st and February 1st at the state regional event. This was a series of 10 academic competitive events. CHS students did well and gained a great deal of real life experience, especially in the speech and interview components of the event. Senior Holly Hoogstra earned second place in the honors essay component, a first for Chandler High. The team is coached by Mrs. Carol Gould.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Thirty CHS Model United Nations students were in Boston last week participating in Harvard Model United Nations. The international event brought over 3000 students from all over the world together to take part in a series of international simulations mirroring the workings of the United Nations. These students represented Chandler High in an exemplary manner!
AVID AT GCU
On Tuesday, January 28th, 40 members of CHS’s AVID program were welcomed to the campus of Grand Canyon University. Students were given a tour of the campus, treated to lunch, participated in a college interest survey, and were able to ask questions of current GCU students in a student panel.
FFA VISITS CTA GOODMAN
The Chandler FFA- Agriscience class taught 3rd graders at CTA Goodman Elementary about soil layers, chicken anatomy, and bee pollination. FFA members worked with the elementary students on vegetable production and helped plant their spring garden. Great work, FFA!
CLASS OF 2020 UPDATED GRAD INFO
It won’t be long and graduation will be here! The Class of 2020 will be the largest graduating class in the history of our school and this year it is on THURSDAY, MAY 28th so be sure to mark your calendar. As previously communicated in Infinite Campus, we are announcing some big changes for our graduation ceremonies. We are very proud of the long-standing tradition of holding our graduation ceremonies on Austin Field and we want to ensure that we can maintain that tradition. SENIOR TRANSCRIPTS
Seniors: What college or university are you applying to attend? All transcripts are sent electronically through Parchment, and your first 5 transcripts are free. Parchment is also used for future employment. If you haven’t set up an account, take care of it now. For registration info, see Ms. Anderson in the Career Center or Mrs. Graffeo or Mrs. Ferguson in the Registrar’s office. After graduation, students are charged $8.50 per transcript.
DUAL ENROLLMENT- SPRING PAYMENT DEADLINE
Payment for Dual Enrollment Spring courses is due on Monday, February 10th.

Earlier in the school year, the IB Booster Club created a Facebook page to provide current IB parents with the opportunity to stay abreast of upcoming events like Booster Club meetings, fundraisers, volunteer needs and important dates. This forum also offers parents the important opportunity to ask questions and to connect with each other. We would be delighted to have you as a member of our group.

CLOSE-UP CLUB- 2021 PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION
Witness History in Action! Join the Chandler High Close-Up Club as they travel to the 2021 Presidential Inauguration. Become a part of history at this fast paced, interactive week full of activities. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that brings students together from across the country to witness the swearing-in of the President. Stop in room #120 for additional information, and then sign up for the 2021 Close-Up Washington DC Presidential Inauguration trip and become a part of History! Tax credits are a great way to get your deposits in. Deposits are due on or before May 1st, 2020. If interested, you need to stop in room 120 for a participation ID number.
YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAININGS
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (included ADHD), and eating disorders.
