September Kicks off National Attendance Awareness Month!
What is chronic absenteeism?
Chronic absenteeism means missing too much school—for any reason—excused or unexcused. Experts and a growing number of states define chronic absenteeism as missing 10% (or around 18 days) during a school year).
**Please watch the short video clip below that helps sum up why school attendance is so important.**
No Shots, No School!
Immunization Reminder: While the COVID-19 vaccine is not required for students, all DCPS students must submit their immunization records no later than 20 school days from the first day of school, or they will not be able to attend until records are received. Families can go to vaccinate.dc.gov to sign up to schedule appointments online to receive their required immunizations at pop-up clinics throughout the District. Families are still encouraged to call their child’s doctor now to schedule an appointment for their vaccines and annual physicals.
Need to Make Immunization Appointments:
Through the end of September, pop-up immunization and COVID-19 vaccine clinics will be open at DCPS buildings throughout the city. These sites are free to all DC residents, and families are asked to make an appointment in advance for pediatric immunizations by visiting vaccinate.dc.gov or calling 1-855-363-0333. Hours vary by school location, and you can see a full list at https://dcpsreopenstrong.com/vaccines.

Reminder: Please No, Double Parking During Arrival and/or Dismissal
- There should be no double parking on K Street at any time.
- During morning arrival, we strongly encourage families to utilize the spaces marked off with orange cones as a "Kiss and Go". Meaning you pull in the coned area let the student out on the passenger side of the car and pull off once the student is completely out of the car and on the sidewalk. Please be mindful that our school buses will use this area in the mornings as well to drop students off.
- If you need to come to the table that we have out front, please park in an authorized parking space. PLEASE DO NOT DOUBLE PARK at any time.
Please Return School Issued Devices and Technology...
Thank you to all families who have returned school-issued devices to date. As a reminder, we are asking all families to please have students return their DCPS issued devices and chargers to school. This is extremely important as we will be updating student technology to ensure that our Cardindlas have the most recent versions and are able to connect properly when needed. All devices will be reissued back to our students in the coming weeks once our updates have been complete. Thanks in advance.
