Elkhorn High School
From The Desk of Mark Schroeder, Principal
EHS Families,
As semester one draws to a close it is hard not to notice all of the change which we are embarking on in the coming weeks. With the successful completion of our fall semester activities, we now embark on winter activities, our first remote week of learning, and finals. As cases continue to grow in the metro and nationally, Elkhorn High School has continued to be able to stay open and provide in-person instruction for the better part of a full semester, which certainly felt in doubt last summer. Thank you to all families for your continued support in our efforts to provide some of the best education in the state as well as continuing to keep students and staff safe.
With the remainder of the semester (10 in-person days left after the remote week ends), I encourage you to continue having your students reach out to teachers, utilizing 8th hour and After Hours, study hard for finals and finish up any missing work to ensure all finish strong as we head into the break and semester two. It is easy to focus on upcoming time off and holidays - but a strong final push from home would go a long way in helping us to ensure students stay on track to succeed in a rigorous classroom and keep every post-high school door open.
Second semester offers new challenges and new experiences, but also affords students a fresh start if needed. Second semester classes will be viewable on Powerschool on Monday, 12/7. While most of our classes are year-long, several courses, especially electives, are semester-long. With the new COVID Calendar, the first week of the second semester will be remote. If your student has a new class for the second semester, please encourage them to prepare by knowing their teachers’ names, email addresses, google classrooms, and the like. We will be spending some time here at the end of the first semester preparing them for the transition as well.
Finals: Finals will take place on December 17th and 18th. Periods 1, 2, 3, and 4 test on 12/17, and Periods 5, 6, and 7 test on 12/18. Students are expected to be at school all periods on both days. Thank you for your support on these vital last two days of the semester.
