Six Flags Math and Science Day


We will depart from school at 7:30 a.m. on April 29th and return at 4 p.m. that afternoon.

BE ON TIME!! The buses will NOT wait.


We will eat at a Pizza Inn in Georgia not far from the park.

The kids will need to bring their own money.

How Much??

The total trip will cost around $45. The tickets and bus will be $38 and the students will need to bring $8 for lunch. *We get a discount!!* Because we are going as a group, the tickets have been offered to us at a discounted price!

When will money and permission slips be due??

Permission slips and money will be due on Friday, March 25th. I know this seems far in advance, but in order to receive the discount we have to have the money in by March 31st.

Can I be a chaperone??

We will need three additional chaperones on this field trip. If you are interested e-mail me at and let me know.

If you are a chaperone for this trip you will receive the discounted ticket price as well.

How will this relate to Pre-Calculus?

While at Six Flags we will discuss different ways in which the rides relate to trigonometry and what algebra is involved in the creation of each ride. We will also discuss the different mathematical aspects the engineers must think of when designing these rides for safety.

PC.FIF.4 Interpret key features of a function that models the relationship between two quantities when given in graphical or tabular form.

PC.FIF.6 Given a function in graphical, symbolic, or tabular form, determine the average rate of change of the function over a specified interval. Interpret the meaning of the average rate of change in a given context.

PC.FT.7 Use inverse functions to solve trigonometric equations that arise in modeling contexts; evaluate the solutions using technology, and interpret them in terms of the context.

PC.GCI.5 Derive the formulas for the length of an arc and the area of a sector in a circle, and apply these formulas to solve mathematical and real-world problems.
