Regional School District No.6
A Message from Superintendent Leone
Special Board of Education Meeting on July 24, 2017
Dear Region 6 Community,
During the 2016-2017 school year the Region 6 Board of Education began an important process to address security in our schools. This work included reviewing exterior entrances, planning for new access locks, and consideration of security cameras in the halls of WAMOGO.
While this facility-based work continues during the 2017-2018 year the Board is holding a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017, in the WAMOGO auditorium. This meeting will be solely for consideration of formal approval of a district policy for the Director of Security to carry a concealed weapon. This matter, brought forward last year, is under consideration based on the geographic distance and location of our four schools. The travel between sites, the isolation of buildings, coupled with potential response time should a crisis arise led for this recommendation. This is considered a preventative measure for additional security and not in direct response to any threats.
It is acknowledged that the topic of an approved concealed weapon in a school could be polarizing and it is important for the Board to hear from community members on the matter. The meeting is being held in the summer to limit potential distractions to our mission of educating our children and also allow for the district administration to plan accordingly.

Chris
