Letter From the Principal
November 2019
My Favorite Time of the Year!
At Elkhart Elementary it is a time to reflect on the beginning of a new year and be thankful for the many great moments we have already experienced. In 3 months time there has been tremendous growth; physically, intellectually, and emotionally. This truly is a 'Great Place to Learn' and this is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our wonderful staff and the support of you our parents. So we are extremely Thankful and Grateful to be able to be a part of all the great things happening here and we are thankful for you trusting us in this learning process.
Staff In-Service and Professional Development
- Mrs. Hays and Mrs. Holland presented Guided Math
- Mrs. Cline presented Handwriting Without Tears
- Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Castleberry, and Mrs. Foster presented STEAM in the Classroom (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
In the afternoon I presented Flipgrid to the teachers. It is a website that allows teachers to put an assignment out to their students and have the students respond in the form of videos or pictures. During this activity the teachers videoed themselves describing the 1 Word they came up with to describe the culture at Elkhart Elementary. We had a great time!
2nd Grade STEAM Project
To launch this curriculum the 2nd grade students had the opportunity to visit the Curious Museum in Palestine. During their visit they took part in different exhibits to investigate forces and motions. They also worked in teams to build a Marble Run to test how different shapes and textures affect the marble making it all the way through their run. The students came up with their own processes, tested their theories and made the needed adjustments for success. It was a wonderful time of exploring and the next couple of weeks in the class room will be just as exciting.
Red Ribbon Week
To celebrate the Elementary School had theme days all week that were in conjunction to drug-free sayings. Monday was 'Too Cool for Drugs' and the students wore sunglasses; Tuesday was 'Too Bright for Drugs' and everyone dressed up in Neon colors; Wednesday was 'Double Up Against Drugs' and the students dressed up as twins with other students; and Thursday was 'Boo to Drugs' and the campus dressed up in Halloween costumes. Also, on this day we went into the Intermediate Gym and had a Halloween Costume Parade. The turnout was great as the bleachers were completely full.
It was an awesome and fun week for our campus!!
