Reflections from the week of November 30th
As the end of a semester draws near, I reflect on the huge gains that we have made as an AMCHS family and think about the areas that we need to enrich. There were several challenges we faced as an AMCHS family, but we overcame these challenges by taking risks, doing more than what is expected, being committed to learning and incorporating new practices, and remaining true to our calling--teaching. As we wrap up the fall semester and prepare for the Christmas break, take time to reflect, renew, and restore your hearts and minds to prepare for the spring semester. It takes ALL of us to make AMCHS one of the best high schools in the state, and we are so thankful for the role you play in the success of our students.
For the last month, Tiger administrators have been working through the process of renewing our accreditation from the Southern Association of Accredited Schools. It is a tedious process that allows us to examine the effectiveness of AMCHS based on specific standards (i.e. vision, purpose, governance, teaching and assessing learning, resources and sport, and using results for continuous improvement). Working through this process and highlighting our successes and interventions allowed us to examine the effectiveness of our instructional practices and the impact these strategies had on learning. When I looked collectively at the opportunities we provided, I am in awe of what has been implemented. The various course offerings, PSAT/SAT prep, professional development opportunities, and extended opportunities for learning are to be celebrated. Yet, we have pockets of students who we must continue to motivate, teach and help them connect to our school. Thank you for being part of an environment that strives to make a difference. We will continue to foster an environment conducive for learning for all.
You matter!
