PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
With this in mind, our work is not done yet! This week, our third grade students will take the Florida Standards Assessment in English Language Arts. We are confident that all of the preparation and hard work that is being put in will prove that our students will meet and exceed expectations! Please logon to our website for the latest version of the Spring Testing Calendar.
While we are hard at work ensuring that our students' success on the state exams, we continue to provide opportunities for our students to explore the arts. Fourth quarter clubs begin this week and we are elated to be operating twenty-four unique clubs to students in grades K-8.
As we prepare for our Accreditation Visit on May 7th, 8th and 9th, we continue to monitor our processes to ensure that we are providing the most safe and meaningful educational experiences for our students and families.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Ms. Regnier
When and why did you decide to become a teacher? I decided I wanted to become a teacher sometime after graduating from college. I initially went to UCF (Go Knights!!) to be a pediatric nurse. Then I changed my mind and major to psychology thinking I wanted to be a child psychologist but I still wasn't too sure. As you can see, I knew I wanted to work with kids but I just didn't know to what capacity. That all changed my junior year when I started volunteering at a Boys and Girls Clubs after school program working with kids that needed some extra love and were going through some difficult times. It was such an honor to be able to just hang out with kids and just listen to their stories about what was going on in their life.
The following summer I got a job as a summer camp counselor and it was so much fun! As a camp counselor, I basically got paid to be the big kid that I truly am at heart! It was so much fun and that's when I knew I wanted a job working with kids all year round and teaching came to mind.
Fast forward to a few months later and I was graduating from college with a degree in Psychology and minor in Education. At this point I still wasn't sure which grade level I wanted to teach so I applied to a school and became an elementary P.E. teaching assistant. After my second day of EVER working in a school, my principal asked me to fill a long term sub position in second grade and I just jumped at the opportunity! Long story short, I loved teaching second grade and knew that was the grade I wanted to teach.
I decided to become a teacher because I am able to work with kids and make a difference in their lives not just by teaching them but also listening to their stories and learning about their lives. So here we are, 5 years later, and I am still a second grade teacher!
If you were not a teacher, what would you be? If I were not a teacher I would want to be Creative Director working for a start up company living in my favorite place in the world... CALIFORNIA!!
What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part of my job is that I am able to use all of my creative ideas in the classroom and teach little minds at the same time! I remember how boring school was for me growing up so I try my best to be the opposite of my elementary experience. I think my kids will agree that we learn a lot but have fun too!
What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time I like to hang out with my dog Oliver who is just the cutest 4 year old malti-poo! I also like to go to Orangetheory and reward myself after with some popcorn and binge watching shows on Netflix! :)
What is your favorite memory at Franklin Academy? There are so many but my first favorite memory that comes to mind would have to be my birthday from my first year. I was teaching an all girls class and my girls were just the sweetest. For my birthday, my room-mom got the girls together, made a huge card for me and threw me a surprise birthday party! It was so sweet because I didn't even know they knew it was my birthday. My kids made me feel so special and it was so heartwarming to know that they loved me as much as I loved them.
