October 2021 - Hatchett Elementary
The beginning of the 2021-2022 school year is off to a great start! We have definitely been busy learning and leading!
The school counseling program is proud to have begun our Mindful Morning program on September 20. Mindful Morning is a 20 minute opportunity for students of all grade levels to begin their day in a positive way. Students have learned how to mindfully stretch their bodies, focus on their breathing, and set positive intentions for what kind of day they'd like to have. Be sure to ask your student about it!
In classroom guidance, students have been exploring topics such as kindness, qualities of a good friend, fair vs. equal, and Kelso's choices. During the month of October, we will continue to explore emotions and developing self-care/coping skills. We will also recognize Bullying Prevention Month and Red Ribbon Week.
We’re looking forward to another great month at Hatchett Elementary School!

Need Additional Support?
Sometimes we need more than group counseling. Individual counseling is available to students to address needs, concerns and other barriers to learning (e.g. anxiety, difficulty with peers, family change, etc.). These sessions are conducted one-on-one with the school counselor, typically every 6-7 school days. These sessions are short-term in nature, lasting 6-8 weeks as determined by ASCA. These sessions are utilized to address immediate needs and subsequently monitor student progress. Individual counseling referrals for students can be made through the request of a student, parent, or teacher.
Should a student need on-going support past 6-8 sessions, your counselor can help determine next steps. NISD is fortunate to have a variety of counseling partners within the greater San Antonio community to continue supporting your child outside of school hours.
