# Ms. Klamo's 5th Grade Math Corner

### WT Elementary

Thank you so much for visiting my page! I created this site to help you stay up-to-date on what your 5th grader is learning in math. Additionally, I wanted to post some tips and videos to help you understand the "Common Core" approach to math. I look forward to working with you to help your child achieve his or her math goals this year!

Have a great day,

Ms. Klamo

## Multiplying Decimals

This week, we are going to begin multiplying decimals. Before students use the standard algorithm, they need to understand the process behind multiplying decimals. The video below explains the area model we will be working with. Happy learning!

Looking for a fun game to play with your child? The link below will take you to Decimal Jeopardy!

## MAP Testing!

The Winter MAP testing session is almost upon us. Since time has been going so quickly, I thought I would share some helpful resources to ensure your child does his or her best on the test in the coming weeks.

1. Ask you child to see their math goal setting sheet. Your child should be able to point out strengths and growth areas in their math score. After analyzing this data, your child and I met to discuss individual goals.

2. Check out Kahn Academy. It is a FANTASTIC, free resource that allows you to watch helpful videos, and work on the skills that your child needs to be successful. This is also a great option for advanced students because they can work on 6th or even 7th grade content. It is a lot of fun! :)

3. Check out the links below to find some fun games for your child to play based on their RIT (overall) score. I hope this is helpful, and I know if we work together your child can absolutely meet his or her goals this year!
