Principal's Message
Thank You!
Thank you on behalf of GRE!
First, thank you for your time meeting with your child’s teacher(s) for parent teacher conferences. As you may already know, teachers spend hours upon hours preparing for conferences. Although they know their students well already, they prepare mini presentations of evidence, anecdotes, and instructional next steps for each child. Significant time, consideration, and thought goes into each one.
As I followed up with teachers and asked them how it went, so many of them rejoiced about the positivity and appreciation expressed by parents. They felt your support, collaboration, and appreciation for the hard work and dedication they have put forth during a pandemic. So, a heartfelt thank you goes out to you for your ongoing kindness, empathy, and collaborative support of your child.
Secondly, thank you for your donations to the Dublin Food Pantry. The Food Pantry has shared that the number of families has significantly increased, while food supply and worker shortages around the country have affected their inventory. The student leadership group facilitated this initiative and they could see their efforts of making a difference come to fruition. They enjoyed seeing the pile of food get bigger each morning.
Lastly, thank you for the work you do at home to support your child. If your family is like the Kurty family, you are still doing all the normal extra curricular activities, homework, home responsibilities. Stress levels are still high, yet we all still have the same tasks. So, thank you as you keep going despite a tense world.
Have a great weekend as we welcome fall weather.
Sincerely,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D
Principal

GRE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Veterans Day Celebration at Glacier Ridge
Glacier Ridge Elementary is proud to announce the return of our annual Veterans Day Celebration. This year our celebration will be held on Thursday, November 11th at 9:25 AM. We would like to honor and recognize veterans of Glacier Ridge families with a short assembly in the gym, followed by coffee and donuts on the playground. GRE students are encouraged to invite a family member who is a veteran.
In preparation for this day, we are asking that anyone in our GRE family who would like to bring a veteran, please RSVP. This will allow us to properly plan for and recognize each of them. RSVP by Monday, November 1 by completing the following.
PLEASE NOTE - Registration is necessary in order to plan for safely distant seating for our veterans. This year, due to restrictions on group gatherings, the assembly is limited to the veteran and student only; family members can meet them on the playground afterward at around 9:50, where we will offer coffee and donuts "to go."
Please use this link to register.
Colder Weather is Coming
It’s getting cold outside! GRE students LOVE going out for recess. We want them to stay safe and healthy. Please make sure your child leaves for school with outerwear appropriate for the day’s weather. Make a habit of checking the weather forecast and encouraging your child to wear a coat, hat, scarf and gloves on these colder days. Students are welcome to wear shorts while inside, but they MUST wear pants over them for recess during cold temperatures. Students must also bring out a jacket that is appropriate for the temperature.
- 20 degrees or below with wind chill - all recesses will be indoors
- 21-25 degrees with wind chill - lunch recess will be indoors, short recess will be outdoors
- 26 degrees with wind chill and warmer - all recesses will be outdoors
Lastly, it is a good reminder to put your child's name in their respective winter attire. A simple task of putting names in coats and on sweatshirts helps get them back to their owner.

Harvest Parties - Thank You Room Parents
Yearbook Art Cover
Students will be coming home with the yearbook art cover design sheet. Students in all grades have the opportunity to design the cover of the yearbook. We incorporate as many designs into the yearbook as possible, which include one on every teacher page and a few dozen on the back page. We often select designs that reflect effort and thought. Students will bring home the cover Monday and should be returned to the office by Friday, October 29th.
Picture Day Retake - October 27
Operation Kids For Troops
We will be starting our annual Operation Kids for Troops Veterans Day Project on Monday, October 25th and will continue until Monday, November 8th.
Students are asked to bring in donations to support our troops serving overseas. We will be collecting:
- toothpaste
- toothbrushes
- decks of cards
- hand sanitizer
- magazines
- hard candy
- powdered drink mix
- chap-stick
- baby wipes
- granola bars
- small toys such as balls and yo-yos.
If you know a military Veteran of a GRE family member serving our country overseas, please email their name and APO address to Mrs. Gould at gould_angela@dublinschools.net with the subject: Soldier. The Veterans Day Committee will make sure they receive a box from Glacier Ridge Elementary.
