Hoot Hoot Herald
January 29 - February 2
The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it’s not going well, is the hallmark of the growth mindset. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives. - Carol Dweck
HOOT NEWS
DOSS 2.0:
Thanks for your great questions and input to the design of the new Doss Elementary. I am going to Joe Lee Johnson on Tuesday with Jodi Hughes and Richard Baehr. We have also invited some members of the Doss CAC ( I was only allowed to bring 5 people).
Having a visual of a completely modernized school will assist us in providing input for our new facility. In early February, I will meet with the new design/build team to discuss our values and goals for the new building. The Doss design team or CAT will meet with this group by Mid-February.
On Friday, I walked the Lucy Read campus and begin to form a vision for our time on that campus. I also met with various district departments last week and they each began to develop their plan of support for moving our campus.
REGISTRATION:
We are about to begin our registration process for the 2018-2019 school year. Students will receive information in their Wednesday folders this week. In order to be registered and put in a class for 18-19, students will need to 1. complete the online registration 2. complete the blue form and 3. turn in their proof of address. All three steps must be completed. We are starting the registration process earlier this year. Please communicate this information to your parents and work to get all required forms back.
PARENT CONFERENCES:
Parent Conference Day is February 19th. Please begin scheduling conferences with ALL struggling, refugee, and gifted and talented students. It is critical to make a concerted effort to reach out to all refugee families. If a translator is needed please email Bradford Hardie. He will arrange these services. In your GT conferences share your methods for differentiation and their progress in the current semester and goals for the remainder of the year.
STAFF CLIMATE SURVEY:
Each of you should have received your climate survey that we do every January from the AISD Department of Research. Please take a moment and complete that survey. We appreciate your anonymous feedback and will use it to improve our school.
MOY ISIP TESTING:
The MOY ISIP testing will need to take place in January. The window opens on January 3rd and closes on January 31st. It is a requirement through the district (and now the state) that everyone participates, as this data will be used as a pre-screening for dyslexia. This means the MTSS team in AISD will be looking through this MOY data. Please let Leah know if you need support with testing.
LAMAR UNIVERSITY CAMPUS VISIT:
Lamar University is coming to our campus to promote higher education opportunities for staff. They will be here on Wednesday, February 7th from 10:30-1:30. Stop by the lounge if you're interested! They will have pizza! :)

COMPUTER LAB
Our campus just received a new piece of technology to help teachers. It is a video system called Swivl that includes a motorized base that allows the video camera to move 360 degrees and follow the speaker (https://vimeo.com/124854948 ). The recordings can be used for teacher growth through reflection, lessons for student self-directed learning, or student projects. Doss has 1 set of equipment and it can be checked out in the Library. A training video is available at https://www.swivl.com/training/ . Please see James or Bonnie if you want to know more.
