The Who Was Series History Bee
The Who Was History Bee!
On Friday morning 24 brave finalists in grades 3-5 competed in the Who Was? History Bee here at Goodnoe. After several rounds, our winner was Adhruth A. in Mrs. McMacken's 3rd grade class. Congratulations to Adhruth and all of our contestants on a job well done! A special thank you to Mrs. Topley and Mrs. Garven for organizing this fun event for students!
A note from the library...
Thank you, parents for all of your support during our Book Fair. Because of your generosity, the library earned over $5,000 in books and money for author visits. We also raised over $100 by rounding up and donating loose change. Books were purchased at the fair to be donated to United Way of Bucks County to support young children in the county. Stay tuned for our Buy-One-Get-One-Free fair towards the end of the school year.
Read Across America Celebration
March is National Reading Month and it includes the Read Across America celebration. What does Read Across America celebrate? On Read Across America Day, we celebrate the joy of learning and give thanks to the parents, caregivers, educators, librarians, authors, and community members who invest in our Nation's children. It is the nation’s largest celebration of reading and focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone.

A Note from the School Nurse
This a reminder to all parents/guardians that elementary students are not able to self-carry ANY medication including cough drops among other over the counter cold/allergy remedies.
Please refer to the CRSD website/handbook which states:
Students MAY NOT CARRY any form of prescription or nonprescription “over-the-counter drugs” with them during school. This is a violation of District policy that will result in disciplinary action.
iRun4Life - 4TH, 5TH, & 6TH GRADE STUDENTS
We will be opening registration for iRun4Life next week. iRun4Life is a fun, noncompetitive running program designed to promote fitness and healthy lifestyles with children. iRun4Life focuses on exercise, healthy nutrition, and doing good deeds in our community. Training will start Wednesday April 12, 2023 with our goal race being the iRun4Life Kids Only 3K on Sunday May 21, 2023 in Doylestown. We will combine dynamic warm ups, relay races, endurance running and discussions about healthy nutrition. Running is not only healthy for your child’s physical health. Running can help improve mental health by reducing stress and anxiety, and improve mood and sleep. It is also a wonderful way to spend time with friends outdoors. The program is open to all 4th, 5th and 6th grade Goodnoe students. We will also need parent volunteers to help the program run smoothly. We will be sending out more information about the iRun4Life soon. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Rothrock at srothrock@crsd.org.
CRSD CELL PHONE/SMART WATCH POLICY
This is a reminder that all Electronic Devices are against our District Policy. Even if text/phone usage is disabled on these devices, many still have the capability of taking photos & accessing the internet, etc. As a result, they are not permitted to be worn during the school day. All electronic devices should be turned off and remain in backpacks if they are brought to school.
Excerpt from CRSD/GES Parent Handbook
The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day or on the school bus (Section 1317.1 PA School Code). Students, who possess cell phones, must secure them in their backpacks/schoolbags throughout the school day, turned off, not silent or vibrate. This eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction.
Students may not use cell phones during lunch, recess or breaks. Cell phones are to remain off during the school day, including the school bus. In the event a student uses a cell phone (calling, texting, photographing or otherwise) or the phone rings, during the school day, the student will be asked to turn the cell phone off before releasing to staff. Following, the cell phone should be picked up by a parent/guardian/designated adult at their earliest convenience, in the main office during school hours. The Council Rock School District assumes no responsibility for cell phones or other electronic devices that are lost, stolen or broken.

READING TIDBITS & TIPS
So Many Genres, So Little Time!
Genre of the month, Informational Text. The word “inform” implies the imparting of knowledge, especially of facts or occurrences. Keep informational books as well as any other genre handy. Stash books in a book bag that you can easily grab when you leave the house to read aloud when you travel or have to read when you need to wait in restaurants or for appointments. Load eBooks on your phone or have your child bring a paper book like we did in the old days.
SCHOOL BREAKFAST & LUNCH INFORMATION
The February breakfast and lunch menus are available on the homepage of the GES website, the menus website and buttons below. To avoid confusion, be sure to review the meal options with your child each day.
2023 PSSA DATES
For your planning purposes, below are the dates that we will administer the PSSA’s for the 22-23 school year. Please plan accordingly and avoid scheduling family vacations during this time.

HUMAN GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT GRADES 4-6
As part of the yearly health curriculum, students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades receive instruction on human growth and development during the second semester of the 2022-2023 school year. Classes will be taught by the Physical Education teacher; Ms. Potash or Mrs. McGill. The school nurse will be available for any follow-up questions. We understand that these can be difficult conversations to have with your children, but they are of great importance to our children’s health.
Additional resources for parents are provided in the attached letter under the grade level topics if you are looking to further these conversations at home. Please click on the button below to review this letter
WILLY WONKA JR.

RECESS - COLD WEATHER
When there are cold conditions outside, please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for outside weather. Unless the weather is extreme (rain or excessive cold, 22 degrees or below), children will have recess outside.
DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 718 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.
