Enrollment Information
The Sun Prairie Area School District has a simple process for transferring 4K students into 5K for the next school year. Students already in SP4K will automatically be enrolled in 5K at the assigned elementary school based on the current home address (see map). Families who are Open Enrolled into an SP4K program will be contacted by our Business Office about plans for 2020-21. If your child currently does not attend a Sun Prairie 4K site and plans to attend 5K, be sure to begin with the Enrolling Students page and go to "Begin the Enrollment Process" for instructions. Please call the 4K office at 608.834.6672 if you have questions.

Tip Line Entry
New Electronic Safety Tip Line
The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for the district. We have been teaching our students to say something to a trusted adult when they see something unsafe. Sometimes, though, there are barriers to reporting safety issues in person. Tip lines are one common approach that schools use to promote school and student safety and well-being. Tip lines are designed to provide students or other members of the public with a safe and confidential way to report a threat to a student or school safety.
To that end, we have created an Electronic Safety Tip Line available on the district website. The e-Tip Line allows students, parents, or community members to report weapons, threats of violence, bullying, sexual harassment, threat of suicide, drugs, and any other activity that could potentially endanger students, staff, and property.
We are developing a communication plan to roll this out to students in upper elementary, middle school, and high school. The e-Tip Line is available on the district website from the “Families” menu and “Quicklinks” and can also be found on the district bullying and safety webpages. If a student wishes to file a bullying report, that Fillable Bullying Report Form is also available on the website.

Emergency School Closings
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS
Tune in to local television and radio stations for information about school delays and closings. (If your child is listening for school closings on a snowy morning, please check to be sure the closing is for Sun Prairie vs. Sauk Prairie). Closings will be posted on the District Web page www.sunprairieschools.org
Sun Prairie Area School district office will also blackboard connect you.
Should weather or road conditions cause the school district to close once the children are in attendance, similar announcements will be made. Every precaution possible will be exercised in caring for your child. In order to effectively complete this task, parents should let their child’s teacher know where they are to be sent anytime there is an emergency closing. Each child will be reminded to go to that location, be it home or elsewhere, if an emergency school closing occurs.
Parents are requested to remind their children of the procedure anytime the potential for severe weather exists. The use of telephones is NOT
to be relied upon in case of emergencies. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Weather Rules
WEATHER RULES
Please remind your children to dress appropriately for the weather.
Students will have outdoor recess unless the weather is rainy, stormy, or too cold (below zero temperature or wind chill below zero), please be sure they come to school with warm jackets, hats, mittens/gloves, and boots.
Playground supervision begins at 7:50 a.m. Students should not be dropped off prior to this time. We would like to avoid possible problems on the playground that might upset a child’s school day and interfere with their learning. Please have your child plan their departure time so that they arrive at Eastside between 7:55 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Your continued support is needed and appreciated.
Student are not allowed in school before 8:15 a.m. unless they are being tutored or having breakfast.
There is no indoor supervision.
Absences/Attendance
Absences
Our Eastside Phone number is 834-7400. After the message Press #1 for the attendance line. This line is available to parents 24 hours a day. Please call the attendance line before 9:00 a.m. to report a child’s absence. We must have a REASON for the absence or the student will be unexcused.
Pre-Excused Absences
If your family is planning an absence, please indicate in writing the dates that your child will be gone, and the reason. Send this to school before the day of absence. We may only consider these days excused absences if the absence is excused in advance (as per Wis. Statute). Otherwise, the days are counted as unexcused. Students are expected to make up all homework due to absences.
Attendance Procedures
While we understand that the parent is responsible for school attendance, we must be accountable for the attendance record of each child. The state of Wisconsin has changed the definition of truancy. Truancy is defined as part of /all of five or more days during a semester. Without the written notification of excused absences, your child might be considered truant. This is in addition to our concerns for the academic struggles that arise when you child has increased absences. School district policy JER outlines the definitions and procedures in more detail. Please contact me if you would like a copy of that policy.
Locked School Doors
Locked School Doors
School doors to the building are LOCKED during the school day for the protection and safety of ALL children and staff during the school day. The exception will be the Front Door Entrance . This door has a camera which monitors those entering our building. There are signs directing those who enter to check in at the Main Office, show a picture ID and receive a visitor or volunteer name tag. It is especially important that these procedures are followed in light of the recent unfortunate happenings at too many of our schools across the state and nation.
Even if you are a frequent visitor or volunteer, this procedure needs to be done each time. Any staff seeing someone in the building that is not a student or another staff member, will ask the person to return to the Main Office for a name tag.
So, whether you are arriving at school to attend a class presentation, concert, bringing in a lunch or birthday treat, etc. Please sign in at the main office.
Volunteering
Volunteering at School or Field Trips
Please remember to fill out the form to have a background check if you want to volunteer at school or chaperone a field trip in the future. It is important that you plan ahead as a background check has been taking about a week or longer at this time, and we do not want to turn away any volunteers.
LOST AND FOUND
With the winter weather here, your children will be wearing clothing items such as hats, mittens, scarves, boots, etc. By taking, a few moments to label your child’s possessions much confusion can be eliminated and prompt return of lost items will be insured.
Please encourage your youngsters who have already lost items to check our lost and found. Items will be displayed by the playground doors Items not claimed will be donated to a charitable organization.
