The Lithuanian flag has three equal horizontal bands of yellow, green and red. Yellow is for gold fields, sun, light and goodness. Green is for forests in the country side, nature, freedom and hope. Red is for courage and blood spilled in defense of the homeland.

History of Lithuania

Lithuania was once a part of Russia in 1795. It is located south of Latvia, west of Belarus and north of Poland.

Physical Features

Lithuania has low land, lush forests and countless lakes. The highest point above sea level is 294m. It is a small European country at the shore of the Baltic Sea. The size of the country is similar to Ireland and is called land of plains, lakes and rivers. They have over 22,000 rivers and streams and almost 3000 lakes. The most popular lake is lake Galvé which is located in Trakai Historical National Park.
