Transportation Guidelines for Safe Student Travel

The District recognizes the need to maintain proper standards of conduct for the safety of students who ride the bus and the drivers who drive them. The following document contains important information pertaining to safe and orderly student transportation to and from school, as well as, extracurricular activities, athletic trips, and field trips: Transportation Guidelines for Safe Student Travel

Student Arrival

Students will be able to be dropped off by their parents beginning at 7:45am through the front lobby doors. Upon entering the building, students will report to the cafeteria and remain there until 8:00am. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria beginning at that time as well. Our students on buses will arrive beginning at approximately 7:55am. The late bell will ring at 8:10am and instruction will begin at 8:15am.

Student Dismissal

Dismissal procedures are essentially staying the same as previous school years, but the times have shifted slightly:

  • 2:50 - front doors open for parents to enter building
  • 2:50 - Grades K, 2 & 4 head to buses
  • 2:51 - Grades 5 & 6 head to buses
  • 2:53 - Grades 1 & 3 head to buses
  • 2:55 - buses leave parking lot for MHS

If you are picking up your children at dismissal, please enter the building through the front doors at 2:50pm to sign them out and pick them up in the cafeteria. Please use the visitor designated parking lot (the section to the right of the office) located at the front of our building to park your vehicle while you are visiting the building for pick up.

Visitor Parking

We love to have visitors join us! Whether you are visiting us for a meeting, to help out in a classroom or just popping in real quick to pick up or drop off your child, please park in our visitor parking lot located at the front of our building (to the right of the main office when you pull in). The only way to access the building during school hours will be through the front lobby doors and getting signed in by a front office staff member. Anytime during school hours that you enter the building and plan to go past the office, you will need to sign in using our RAPTOR identification system and wear a visitor tag. Safety and security of students are our number one priority so these procedures are followed with that goal in mind.

Traffic Patterns

Big picture
Big picture
Student pick up and drop off zones are in the same locations as in previous years - the front of the school. To alleviate the heavy traffic flow in the mornings, students will be able to be dropped off at the front of the school beginning at 7:45am until 8:10am when the late bell will ring. As mentioned above, student safety is our number one priority and that is why we have a separate loading zone for our buses in the back parking lot of school to keep our students loading and unloading buses out of parent traffic flow. Please help us uphold this safety standard by always entering and exiting Maplewood Elementary through the front drive to avoid our bus loading and unloading zones. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this important safety measure! You can review further details about student transportation in our Standard Operating Procedure for School Arrival and Dismissal document.

Our School-Wide Theme is..... 'Dream!'

Thanks to Mrs. Menanno's super research skills, she took the theme of DREAM and found a great book that supports this! It is simply called 'Dream: A Tale of Wonder, Wisdom & WIshes' by Susan V. Bosnak. Great news - through Title funds, Mrs. Patti Fiely is purchasing every classroom at MES one so that we all have access to the book. Let's dream BIG this year, Maplewood!

Supply Lists

Compiled are supply lists of general items that grade levels use on a regular basis. If you would like to donate any of the items below, please send them to school with your child or drop them off at the main school office in a bag with your child’s name written on it.
