Principal Message

Dear Henking families:

We have just completed our first week of adaptive pause and I hope that everyone has experienced a smooth transition. Please review the adaptive pause reminders in this memo.

Also, in this memo you will find information for picking up your child’s Color Portraits packet for those who have pre-ordered. If you did not pre-order, you can pick up your child’s complimentary postcard calendar with a ticket code should you want to order pictures at a later time.

Lastly, please know our school office staff and administrators will continue to work in the building during the pause, so please feel free to reach out to us if you need to.

Picture Pickup Information

Please come to our Henking front entrance starting on Monday, December 7th through Friday, December 11th from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm to pick up your child’s prepaid picture package or complimentary postcard calendar with your child’s individualized ticket code number. The bin containing these materials will be organized in alphabetical order by last name and will be outside for you to help yourself to your child’s items. Picture retake day to be scheduled when we return back in-person.

If you have any questions please contact Color Portraits customer service department directly at info@colorportraits.com or (847)382-7505.

Personnel Update

Amy Wilson has recently joined our Henking family as Stephanie Magid’s long-term substitute for Art. Mrs. Wilson brings with her many years of experience working as a visual arts teacher for elementary school students. She will be supporting our students until Mrs. Magid returns. She has been doing a wonderful job and we feel fortunate to have found her!

Tech Support

If you or your child needs tech support, please call the tech hotline at 847-998-5075.

Instructional Technology Supports (apps, websites, other digital resources):

Attendance

Illinois state law requires that the taking of attendance (including entering absences and tardies as well as contacting parents of students who have not been reported as absent). During adaptive pause, all classroom/homeroom teachers will take attendance everyday.

Parents should call or email their school attendance office if their child will not be participating in class for the day at (847) 657-2694 or kwalstrom@glenview34.org.

Zoom Guidelines

Parents, guardians and other adults who help students connect to their classrooms and facilitate remote learning are serving a specific and valuable role in helping educate our students. We value the partnership required in this environment. In order to protect privacy and allow teachers and students to create safe, trusting and productive classroom communities, adults should not be visible on screen during real-time Zoom sessions unless a student requires adult assistance due to an already documented need.

How can families continue to support during adaptive pause?

  • Dedicate a learning space at home. A space that is ready for learning (has supplies including pencils) and in view of an adult.

  • Provide breakfast/lunch prior to beginning the session.

  • Limit distractions when possible (turn off the television, use headphones, etc.).

  • Ensure your child regularly attends classes, just like when we are in-person

  • “Commute” to work; take a walk before or after school to get some exercise and be ready for learning or power down after a long day.

  • Visit our district's #BEWELL34 site for ideas to support your family and child's emotional health @ https://glenview34org.finalsite.com/bewell34.

  • Reach out to your child's teaching team if you need additional supports.

  • Attend our parent office hours if you would like to discuss additional supports with our school psychologist and social worker. Click here for instructions!
