Infant Mortality Rates From 1955-2010
Life Expectancy Rates as of 2011
This graph compares the current life expectancy rates of both Colombia and the United States as of 2011. Colombia was very close to the United States in terms of life expectancy. In Colombia, the overall life expectancy is 78 years of age, which is only 1 less than the overall life expectancy of 79 years in the United States. Men in Colombia on average live 74 years, whereas a man in the United Stated lives for 76 years. Women in both countries have a life expectancy of 81 years of age. The average life expectancy in Colombia is not a shortcoming in the society, as it is very close to that of the United States. Colombia's acceptable life expectancy reflects modern medicine in Colombia, as well as better work conditions for those who work long hours. As well, it also shows that there is a lesser crime rate, especially because major, bloody conflict like La Violencia and the Revolution for Independence have not gotten to such a degree. The life expectancy in the United States also attests to the highly advanced medical resources we have. The acceptable life expectancy for both countries also shows how neither country is severely malnourished, as both have the nutritional means to lead a long life. The fact that women have the same life expectancy shows that in both countries, women lead similar roles in society, and usually take care of the house which does not hold the same risk as working out in the fields for example. The fact that life expectancy for women is so much higher than that of men in both countries shows that it is less common for a woman to pass away from illness, poor nutrition, or crime.
