Light Travels

FQ: How do the properties of an object affect reflection?

  • When light is reflected it bounces back from a surface
  • Reflection allows objects to be seen that do not produce its own light
  • The color of the light reflected is the color the object appears
  • Example: mirror

  • When light is refracted it passes from one type of transparent material to another and changes direction
  • Example: magnifying glass, straw in water

  • When light is absorbed, it does not pass through or reflect
  • The color of the object is determines by the light that is not absorbed (but reflected)
  • All other colors are absorbed

After the experiment, did your data support your hypothesis? Explain.
