PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This time of year can bring many changes for students and their families. Whether it is their first day of Kindergarten or Preschool or they are entering a new school or program, students may become overwhelmed or feel a bit intimidated. Remember, that feelings of nervousness and excitement are the same and it is how one responds to an event that will determine the emotion that they will feel. Let's turn these jitters into positive feelings and excitement!
The degree of adjustment to a new school year will depend on the child, but adults can play a big role in managing the expectations and realities of a new school year. Help them feel confident and support them as they adjust and transition into a new grade by encouraging them to share their feelings or concerns. Sometimes, just rephrasing statements as a positive reversal can help. For example, instead of, "I won't know anyone or have any friends", one can say, "I wonder what new friends I will make this year!"
Teachers are experts at helping students manage new transitions. Rely on them and trust them to be your guide, as we work together to help all students start the year with a positive attitude.
I am so excited for all the good things to come!

A spectacular summer at Peace Dale Elementary School!
The Not So Lazy Days of Summer!
Have you seen our garden?? Thank you to our South Kingstown Maintenance crew and our parents and students for transforming our gardens, and making a beautiful and welcoming entryway into our school- AMAZING! Also, a huge shout out to our custodial crew- who have been working hard all summer to get our school ready for the first day- WOW, it looks incredible!
And speaking of our entryway, plans to construct a safer entryway into our school are underway and will begin this year! Construction should not interfere with arrival or dismissal procedures. Regular updates on this project will be provided.
Our website is being updated this summer and will be a valuable way for you to stay connected to our school. Check it out here: http://skschoolspd.ss9.sharpschool.com/
