Excess weight, especially obesity, is a major risk factor for cardio vascular disease, type 2, some musculoskeletal conditions and some cancers. As the level of excess weight increases so does the risk of developing conditions. In addition to being overweight can effect the ability of being able to control these disorders.
Why is it a national health priority area?
rates of over weight and obesity are continuing to rise in Australia. Collecting information on these trends is important for managing the associated health problems. Over weight and obesity are the second highest burden of disease.
