THE RPI PULSE
Your source for all things RPI...February 2, 2020
A quick note from the principals desk...
With this short week, I thought it would be a great time to revisit something we talked about earlier this fall...the drop zone out front and traffic on Getty St. We are working really hard here within the building to instill Respect (showing others that they matter) and Integrity (doing what is right or expected). While I know that morning time can be a stress in and of itself, this is a great time to remind ourselves that the kids are watching.
Please be patient with your other community members...even if they don't get it. I know I've had conversations with many frustrated parents around this topic. Expect that there will be those who don't get it, accept it, show grace, demonstrate respect for their own understanding and it will make a big difference to the kids!
Remember that we have a half day on Thursday and no school on Friday and Monday. Communication next week will almost certainly be delayed until late Monday or Tuesday morning.
Have a great week everyone!
Go Rockets!

This week's Positivity Project Focus...Gratitude
"Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation."
Powerful words...how might you have a conversation with your kids this week around how you have experienced this as an adult? How a situation that seemed bad at the time really just helped you develop a stronger mentality?
6th Grade Parents: All elective choices must be made by February 13 for sixth graders for next year
Bus Stop Help
We have gotten several calls and emails from parents and concerned about students standing too close to the road in the morning, especially along Giles Road. They have talked about students almost standing in the street and near misses. We have reminding kids to stay back to stay safe, talked about distracted drivers, etc. Please, no matter where your kids wait for the bus, have this conversation with them. Remind them to use the blinking lights that were donated. It takes a village!!
THANK YOU!!

6th Grade Families...Here is information about Middle School Band!!
RPMS Band
As you are considering scheduling - continuing in band has many opportunities available next year. We really take off in middle school which prepares us for the HS Band experience. Students that are coming back to band or are new to an instrument are also welcome!
CONCERT BAND
We meet every day and perform every month! How cool is that? We play over 30 pieces of sheet music throughout the year as well as cover two skill building band books in class. The band performs for school assemblies, Cafe' concerts, Veteran's Day at the Causeway, three different classical concerts at the Rocket Centre and the Band-O-Rama at the HS Arena and most importantly....an occasional recess at Central Elementary! Also, there is an opportunity to earn medals at District Solo & Ensemble Festival.
SYMPHONIC BAND
This is an advanced “performing” band at the middle school. Some advanced 7th graders may be placed in this ensemble as needed. This band is mainly 8th graders.
