Meet the LCSD School Board
Next up, Amanda Remund, Vice Chair, (Zone 5) South County
Getting to know Amanda Remund
1. Why did you decide to become a part of the Lincoln County School District Board of Directors?
I heard through my kids' school that Zone 5 was in need of a board member. I knew what a school board was, but not real familiar with what they did exactly. I went to a board meeting, met the superintendent and talked with a few board members. Did some research on what a school board does. The more I learned, the more I wanted to join the board. I really love our schools in Waldport and thought this would be a great way to continue to support the schools. I was fortunate enough to be appointed and then elected.
2. Do you have children? Did they graduate from an LCSD school? What are they doing now in their careers?
I have 2 children. My son is a 2015 Waldport High School Graduate and my daughter is a 2017 Waldport High School Graduate. My kids had a great experience at Waldport schools. They participated in so many things, form Drama, to sports, to student council. They received excellent instruction and academic support throughout their school years. The support they received from the staff and the teachers is why I love our schools.
3. What do you hope to accomplish in 2018 as part of the board?
2018 is going to be an important year. I hope our biggest accomplishment will be hiring an excellent Superintendent. The board is putting a lot of focus on this, we want the right person. With a strong superintendent in place, we can continue to move the district forward, continue to improve student achievement and other goals and continue to offer a great environment for students and staff.
4. Anything else you'd like parents to know about involvement in the school district?
I have always enjoyed volunteering at our schools. From a classroom helper to raising money for Grad Night trips, to everything in between. I am currently on the WHS Boosters, I am in charge of our FB page and taking pictures of our athletes. I love promoting our awesome students. I am filled with Irish Pride! We have amazing students and staff all over the district. Great teachers, administrators, office staff, district office staff, and of course great kids. It is an honor to serve and represent this great organization.
Everyone loves Walter the dog!
