Tuesday, March 30th is a synchronous learning day for all scholars.

If your child is switching from virtual learning to in-person learning and he/she requires bus transportation, you will need to complete a bus transportation form by Thursday, April 1st so that your child could be added to the bus routes.

Even if your scholar is a car rider, and you plan to switch his/her learning environment, your child's teacher must be notified by Thursday, April 1st. Those families who wish to remain in their current learning environment will not need to contact their child's teacher. However, if you are switching from your scholars current learning environment, inform your child's teacher by Thursday, April 1st.

Scholars who are coming from a virtual learning environment to in-person will be required to bring their school Chromebook with them to be accessed by the technology department.

All scholars returning on campus will be required to wear a properly fitted face covering, complete an Attestation form, and continue to have a health screening upon entering the school building.

Scholars who have excessive absences will be contacted with ways to increase learning opportunities. Parents/guardians are responsible for making sure that scholars are in school every day whether they are virtual or in-person.

Black History Month Trivia

Destini Jones, 1st Grade teacher, shares Black History Trivia each week. Scholars listen to trivia questions and submit their answers.

This week's trivia question is:

I was born on September 10th, 1982 in Kansas City, Missouri. I am the first African American performer to serve as a principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre! I began my journey into dance while studying under Cindy Bradley, a California ballet instructor when I was young. I then moved on to join the studio company of American Ballet Theatre in 2000 where I became a soloist before being appointed to principal dancer at the theatre. In 75 years, the American Ballet Theatre had never had an African American performer as a principal dancer until I came along! I use my story and success as an example for others to do more and be more. Did you know that I was named as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2015? Who am I?

Here was last week's trivia question:

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. I was the 44th President of the United States and the first African American to serve as the President of the United States! I am also a published author! My two most popular books “Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance” (an autobiography) and “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream” are both well known and have received high marks such as being Number 1 on The New York Times bestsellers list, Amazon’s bestsellers list, Grammy for Best Spoken Word album, and praise from literary figure Toni Morrison. I have two daughters named Sasha and Malia, and am married to a beautiful woman named Michelle! Who am I? Last week's trivia answer was Barak Obama!

Benchmark Assessments

Scholars in grades 3 - 5 will take their Math and Reading benchmarks on Wednesday, February 17 and Thursday, February 18. Remote scholars are required to log in at 8:00 AM to take their assessments.

Please make sure that scholars have writing materials and take their time. Please provide a quiet space where scholars have uninterrupted time to complete their assessments.

Attendance Concerns

In order for scholars to be counted present for class, they will need to be in class for the entire class period. Parents/Guardians, we need your help. When scholars are not present, it causes further learning gaps. We will be sending potential retention letters this week. If your scholar has had poor attendance, this could be a factor in retention.
Big picture

Inquiry Based Learning

Our amazing ENCORE Team will be working with all scholars to complete a habitat mural. Scholars will be able to research, draw, and present their animal choice and how this animal lives. Our virtual scholars and in-person scholars will learn coding and even create music during this project. Please encourage your child to do their best on these habitat inquiry based assignments.

iReady Updates

Beginning the week of January 25, 2021, scholars will be required to complete and pass at least two lessons in reading and two lessons in math every week. The highest two grades in each subject will be posted in PowerSchool.

COVID-19 Protocols

All scholars, car riders and bus riders, are required to return a parent/guardian signed Attestation Form every day of in-person instruction. If a scholar arrives to school without a signed attestation form, we will contact parents before sending them class.

The attestation form that parents/guardians sign states that their child does not have COVID-19 and that he/she was not exposed to anyone with COVID-19. The attestation also asks parents/guardian if their scholar has any of the following symptoms: fever, new cough, chills, congestion, runny nose, loss of smell or taste, or body aches.

As an additional precaution, if a scholar receives a negative COVID-19 test AND has cold symptoms, he or she will be required to quarantine. If a scholar has cold symptoms with or without a COVID-19 test result, will be required to quarantine. When scholars are in quarantine, they should continue with remote learning.

All scholars and staff members are required to wear a face-covering/mask all day except for during breakfast and lunch. These protocols are in place to keep your child(ren) safe as well as our staff.

Previous Dynamic Dolphin Newsletters

Here are our previous newsletter for your review.

January 4 - 22, 2021

Welcome back Coker Wimberly Families!

We are looking forward to an amazing second semester. Scholars will have more opportunities for academic engagement and hands-on activities. Our virtual learners will have their own project kits so that they can complete some of the same tasks as our in-person scholars.

Please encourage your scholar to be present during instructional time. This means that scholars should have their cameras on, school materials readily available, and assignments completed.

We are hosting our 2nd Virtual Awards Day on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 4:30 PM for our grades K-2 scholars and 6:00 PM for our grades 3 - 5 scholars. Please be on the look out for an invitation from your child's teachers.

Beginning the week of January 25, 2021, scholars will be required to complete and pass at least two lessons in reading and two lessons in math every week. The highest two grades in each subject will be posted in PowerSchool.

Classroom Changes, Laptops, and Hot Spots

Due to the increased number of scholars returning to in-person instruction, we made some classroom room changes so that scholars can safely maintain social distance. Please remind your child not to share his/her materials with anyone.

Scholars who were virtual learners AND are switching to in-person instruction will need to return their device on Monday, January 25, 2021. Scholars will not need to return school issued hotspots until the end of the school year.

Mask Mandate

All scholars are required to wear a well-fitted mask during in-person instruction. Please make sure that your scholar wears a mask everyday.

Attestation Forms

We provided scholars with additional health screening attestation forms in their instructional packets that were picked up on Monday, January 11. Only scholars returning to in-person instruction will need the Attestation Forms. Please be honest on these forms so that we can keep all scholars safe.

Virtual Learners Attendance and Participation Concerns

Virtual learners are required to log in, with cameras on, during the entire instructional time. Please be aware that teachers are required to document and monitor scholars online engagement. Teachers may mark virtual-learning scholars absent if they log-off or are not responding for more than an hour during instructional time.

As an additional precaution, if a scholar receives a negative COVID-19 test AND has cold symptoms, he or she will be required to quarantine. All scholars are creating animal habitat murals for an animal that they choose. To help them with getting ideas, scholars will visit the San Diego Zoo virtually and observe animals in their natural habitat. Please have scholars visit: https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/live-cams and choose an animal to complete an animal mural.

Go to the San Diego Activity Sheet and complete observations of each animal. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DulGtspKqkN-7SJl4zpI9FyTO2gjnpDp/view?usp=sharing

Each scholars' animal mural will need to include the following depicted their animal habitat mural:

1. Name of the animal

2. Type of shelter the animal requires to be safe (its home)

3. Foods that the animal eats

4. Predators of this animal

5. Habitat name

When scholars finish creating their animal mural, please have them complete the FlipGrid presentation: https://flipgrid.com/1e79349b
