Indian Bayou Elementary

February 2022

A message from our principal

Happy February!!! We have an exciting month ahead! Students have passed the 100 day benchmark, and they're neck-deep in learning! Routines are established, and learning is sailing along. Along with learning, there are opportunities sprinkled in throughout this month for students and teachers to relax and have some fun.

I know that student attendance has been at the mercy of CDC guidelines concerning quarantines, but the teachers and I want to thank all of you who have stepped up and made sure that your child completed the work that was sent home when they couldn't attend school. It makes all the difference in your child's learning and in their success when they return from a long absence.

Also, if your child has 12 or more absences (not quarantine absences), they are in danger of repeating their current grade level. Parent notes are important and they allow students to make up missed work; however, they do not completely excuse them from missing school. It is important for your child to attend school consistenly. If you need support in this area, please reach out to us!

The library book fair is happening this month! Students will visit the book fair during the school day, but we will be hosting a parent night during the book fair week if you'd like to visit along with your child. Information will be sent home soon!

February is the month of LOVE! And I cannot pass up an opportunity to tell you how much I love your children, and how much I love YOU! All of us here at IBES value your children and the awesome families that come along with them. Thank you for helping us to make Indian Bayou a place of learning, love, support, and family!

Kindergarten Registration for 2022-2023

Just a heads up that we will have Kindergarten registration on March 10th from 8:30-12:30. This is only for children who are not already in Pre-K. If your child attends Pre-K here at Indian Bayou Elementary, you DO NOT have to register them.

Jackets and Sweatshirts

We still have quite a few items in our lost and found. Please have your child check to see if any of these belong to them. We were able to return a few because they had a name in them!!

Mendoza Ford Car Raffle

Mendoza Ford has graciously donated another vehicle and is sponsoring a raffle in which all proceeds go to Vermilion Parish Schools! Indian Bayou has benefited enormously from this raffle, due to your support. We are excited to be able to participate again this school year! The pandemic generated many negative impacts on our school, including financial ones. The car raffle is an opportunity for us to recover quicker from that set back.

Our first selling period was awesome! We truly have the best community!! And students are excited to SLIME Ms. Tara! We have one more selling period from February 22 through March 3. If the school reaches our goal to sell 650 tickets, students will get to SLIME the principal! Thank you all for your help in supporting our Indian Heros! You rock!

Drop off and Dismissal

Please continue to use the new driveway to enter for drop off and pickup. Also, please be mindful of the amount of space you leave between you and the vehicle in front of you. This will help us fit more cars in the line and keep you off the road. We know that that there are a few "ruts" in the new driveway. They will work on it soon! We thank you for your cooperation in these changes!

Coming soon....a longer DOUBLE driveway! We're hoping this will alleviate anyone being left on the highway. Thank you again for your patience and cooperation!

100th Day of School

On Friday, January 28th, we celebrated our 100th day of school. Some students chose to dress as a 100 year old, decorate a poster, or wear a 100th celebration shirt. Some of our teachers joined in the fun too!!! Any guess on who the "old man" is?? If you guessed Mrs. Allyson, you are correct!!!
