How to Guide

I vs Me (Which to use and why?)

By Sam and Josh Patterson B4

The Issue of I vs Me

When you write a sentence and you want to add yourself and somebody else, you have to decide "I or me" for yourself. Most of the time somebody will automatically put I. Sometimes they are right, and sometimes they are wrong.

Why Use "and I"

You are supposed to use and I when the person is performing the action of the verb. For example, the correct way to use and I is, Phil and I like going on walks in the park. The incorrect way is, Phil and me like going on walks in the park.

Why Use "and me"

You are supposed to use and me when the action of the verb is being done to that person. For example, the correct way to use and me is, John told Phil and me to take walks in the park. The incorrect way is, John told Phil and I to take walks in the park.

An Easy Method To Distinguish and I/and me

A useful way to know when to use and I or and me is to take away the other person. What I mean by that is if you take out the other person's name and "and" then you can tell if it is correct. For example, Phil and I eat food. When you take out the other person it looks like this, I eat food. That sounds correct. If you would have put in an me It would have looked like this, Me eat food. That sounds incorrect.

Silly Sentence Using "and I"
