News from the Principal's Office
A&M Consolidated High School
News from Elder's Desk
It was refreshing to be back on the campus of AMCHS and interacting with various stakeholders. I enjoyed visiting with our staff and students, meeting our new students, and getting reacquainted with students who re-enrolled to complete their education at AMCHS. Witnessing the positive interactions within our student body speaks volumes to the culture of our school. Moreover, our mission of “Educating the Hearts and Minds of Students for Life" is what we have been set apart to do—engage, educate, empower ALL students to excel!
Tiger admin spent this week disaggregating grade and survey data to better address the needs of our school community. Overall, the survey participants are satisfied with the quality of education provided at AMCHS, but there are specific areas that we need to address so we can improve our school environment. Also, we will reflect on the feedback given and be intentional in addressing the concerns expressed.
The fall semester grade data is consistent with the previous year except for our ninth-grade students. The data highlights significant growth in failures at the ninth-grade level. Though it is disappointing, we will not quit! I am aware that many of you have gone the extra mile to help these students succeed and your work is appreciated. Nevertheless, we will examine viable solutions to help our students achieve and reflect on our practices to address the concerns of our failures.
Student feedback areas of concern:
- Eighty percent of the students who responded think that substance abuse is a problem at AMCHS.
- Forty percent of the students do not believe our school is preparing them to deal with issues and problems they will face in the future.
- Sixty-six percent of the respondents do not believe school rules apply fairly to all students.
Teacher feedback areas of concern:
- Adequate facilities to support students’ learning needs
- Class sizes are appropriate for learning
- Adequate security measures are in place at AMCHS
- Discipline is addressed in a fair, consistent and timely manner
- Professional development—district initiatives, required training
Driven by Purpose and Determine to Impact!
