Week of November 9, 2014

A Note from Ms. Graves

Dear Families,

We had a pretty eventful week this week and I hope your child has come home excited! We spent the week in reading learning strategies for solving triky words and movements to go with them. Ask your child about cross checking, flipping the sound, and also using the beginning and ending of the word to help problem solve the middle. We had 6 everyday heroes share visit our classroom to share their role and responsibilities with the students. Next week we will practice our friendly letter writting, but sending them an appreciation letter. Next week will also be our last week in the information writing unit. We will focus on editing for spelling, capitalization, and look at how we use commas to list details.

In math we learned what a gram was (about the weight of a paperclip or peanut) and made predictions about the weight of some everyday objects. Students will mass these objects next week to see how close they were to their predictions and we will also explore area using colored tiles. After some measurement olypmics practice, we will have our Measuring Unit Test on Thursday.
