Words of Inspiration

A Special Applause to...
PD on the Fly...
In this article, they ask, "How do we increase access to positive social capital for those from disadvantaged backgrounds? If we don’t address this, then millions will struggle to access the American dream, as they lack the opportunity to get ahead." It is interesting and affirming to read the strategies they suggest. Please take a second to read about how you do or can make a difference in the lives of the students who need us the most. Enjoy!

VENDOR FAIR
In preparation for the PTO Gifting, we are holding a Vendor Fair! This will be an opportunity for you to interact with vendors with the latest tech tools and flexible seating options. It will take place in the cafe on Wednesday, October 24. We are asking 5th grade and specials area teachers to come between 7:20-8:00 and 6th grade teachers between 8:25-10:30. These are vendors who are district has a relationship with. Our PTO is willing to work directly with these vendors for payment. This year the school will not be able to pay for items approved through the gifting process. If you decide to order from a vendor or company we do not work with, you will need to pay for the item and have PTO reimburse you. FYI... this is what I have done in the past and the PTO treasurer will provide a check the next day with advanced notice.
COMMITTEE CLARIFICATION
A couple of people have asked what the difference between the Problem Solving Committee and the Teacher Leader Committee is. I think the best way to explain it is by using examples. Last year, the Teacher Leader Committee used Harvard Business Review's Fair Process to examine our schedule and get input from the staff. This work took significant time to complete and develop a solution. In contrast, the Problem Solving Committee met last Friday to examine a teacher's struggle with how to effectively use Flex Time. We used a process from Restorative Practices training and the teacher chose from about 15 potential solutions to implement immediately.
TEACHER LEADER COMMITTEE
I am excited to announce that Aleshia Reinhart will lead the Teacher Leader Committee. The next meeting will be on November 2 in the MPR.
