Board Commendations
The Board commended Boerne ISD students and staff, as well as celebrated district-wide honors. Below are some of the honorees.
National Merit Scholarship
We congratulated the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Students from Boerne and Champion High School.
Champion senior Amy Steward has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, while seven Chargers and four Greyhounds were named National Merit Commended Scholars.
Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5 percent of the state's senior students. Students complete an application to be considered for National Merit Finalist. Finalists are announced in February of 2023.
Commended Students are named based on a nationally applied Selection Index score.
Around 34,000 students receive Letters of Commendation.
These students are some of the top academically performing students not only in Texas but the United States.
College Board Honors
A total of nearly 80 students from Champion and Boerne High Schools have earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs.
National Recognition Programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them meaningfully connect to colleges and stand out during the admissions process.
Colleges and scholarship programs identify students awarded National African American, Hispanic, Indigenous, and/or Rural/Small Town Recognition through College Board’s Student Search Service.
Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams; and are African American, Hispanic American, Indigenous, and/or attend school in a rural area or small town.
Top 25 Ranked Schools
Seven Boerne ISD schools ranked in the 2023 Niche Top 25 Best Schools rankings.
Both Champion and Boerne High Schools were ranked in the Top 25 Best Public High Schools in the San Antonio area, coming in at #6 and #16 respectively.
Boerne Middle School South and Boerne Middle School North ranked 8th and 15th overall in the Top 25 Best Middle School category.
Three Boerne ISD Elementary Schools made the Top 25, with Fair Oaks Ranch (8th), Cibolo Creek (13th), and Van Raub (18th) were in the top 25 overall.
In addition, BISD was ranked the third-best school District in the San Antonio Area, and the 2nd best traditional or non-charter district.
According to Niche, the 2023 Best Schools ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, and high school ratings.
Officer Honored
Cibolo Creek Elementary School Resource Officer Ryan Cook was awarded the first-ever City of Boerne Values Award for Excellence.
She began with Boerne PD as a records clerk before moving to the Criminal Investigations Division.
She then trained to become a police officer and is the current School Resource Officer at Cibolo Creek.
Officer Cook continues to spark a desire in others while maintaining the same degree of excellence in her work.
Boerne ISD is proud to have Officer Cook as an SRO. She makes a difference each and every day!
