Principal's Message

Dear Royal Families,

As we near the end of the year, we have several announcements we want to share with you. If you have any questions regarding any of these announcements, please do not hesitate to contact me or our front office. We are more than happy to help.

Certificates: We had our Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 awards ceremonies yesterday and today. All certificates will be sent out tonight. Please check your spam as sometimes our emails can be found there.

Continuation Certificates: All Continuation Certificates will be sent through email on Wednesday, 5/26, at the end of the day.

Learning Format for 2021-2022: Late last week you should have received a notification regarding the learning format for next school year. While some things are still up in the air, we are planning for 4 days of in-person learning for all students at Quist. We will organize our master schedule in such a way that should we need to flex to a hybrid approach for a short time, we will have the ability to do so. If you need more clarification or have specific questions about this, please contact me at tnorrisbuck@sd27j.net.

Chromebooks: Our 6th and 7th grade students who are returning to Quist will be able to take their Chromebook home with them for either summer learning or summer enrichment opportunities and then bring them back in August. (One of these opportunities, Dreambox, is explained below.) Our Technology Department has created this document with useful tips and information on how to keep the Chromebook in good working order as well as troubleshoot any issues. If you have an eighth grader, this information is a little bit different and is outlined below. If your student won't be returning to Quist next year, even if they are returning to another 27J school, we will need to collect their chromebook.

Dreambox: Every Quist student (except those who are enrolled in either Integrated I or Integrated II) now has access to Dreambox, an instructional tool to support mathematics, through their onelogin tile. Here is a short explanation and video to help provide background information. You can also refer to this parent portal document to learn more. You might consider having your child spend 30 minutes a day in either Dreambox or reading activities.

8th Graders: Chromebook Opportunity

At the end of 8th grade, students get to keep their 27J issued Chrombook. They will also be issued a new Chromebook in 9th grade if they are attending a 27J high school.

If students are not in need of their device over the summer, we have a great opportunity to give back!! 8th-grade students will be given the option to donate their Chromebook to students in Ghana. Our coding and multimedia teacher, Mr. Ayi Bonte is a Ghanaian. Mr. Ayi Bonte founded a nonprofit organization called African Einstein Initiative. The primary goal is to support education in Africa, particularly Ghana. The organization provides school supplies, clothes, and computers to schools in remote areas in Ghana. The long-term goal of the organization is to build libraries and STEM centers in schools in Ghana. Any 8th grader, who is able, can donate their school-issued Chromebook at the end of the year to this wonderful organization.

If you have other school supplies you would like to donate, we will be accepting those donations as well. Students can leave their Chromebook and any donated school supplies in their Pathways class on their last day and we will collect them. Please contact Mr. Ayi Bonte at aayibonte@27J.net or Darcy Brown at dbrown@ 27j.net with any questions.

Big picture
In-person students will have a socially distanced field day (within their cohorts) for two hours during Pathways. 8th grade students will be having a virtual continuation ceremony during Pathways and will have an hour and a half field day later in the day. Virtual only students will have an online scavenger hunt and other games/fun activities during Pathways. As much as we would like to have virtual students join us on the last days of school in person, covid restriction permits us from doing so. Covid restrictions also do not allow for parent spectators. We are hopeful that this will change next year!

As a reminder, every student (fully virtual or hybrid learning) will have the same schedule the last two days of school (Tuesday, May 25 and Wednesday, May 26)
