8.5.2020- End of Summer Updates

Good Morning Eagle Families!


I hope this message finds you all doing well!


Just a few quick announcements:




  • Our Community Partners are working to ensure that all of our students have the supplies they need to be successful this year. If your family would like support with school supplies this year, please sign up here. (https://forms.gle/cfAhNo1gLAWLx2Dd7) We will support as many families as we can.


  • We are in the process of finalizing our schedule and reworking our class lists! We hope to be able to share teacher assignments and a daily schedule with you very soon! In the meantime, mark your calendars for a few special back to school events!


    • Family Orientation via Google Meet~ Monday, August 17

      • Session 1: 6:30 pm

      • Session 2: 7:30 pm

*Families should attend the session that works best for their schedule. I will share log-in

information closer to the date of the event.

        • 9:00- Kindergarten

      • Materials Pick-Up Only:

        • Thursday, August 27, 6- 7:30 pm

        • Friday, August 28, 4- 6 pm

        • Saturday, August 29, 10 am - 12 pm

*Families should only attend one materials pick-up event. Come at the time that works best for

your family.


  • Our teachers will meet with students during the first two weeks of school. Our lessons and activities will be focused on building relationships, establishing routines, and getting acclimated with the tools and resources we will be using this year. Teachers may also use this time to complete some beginning of the year assessments. Classes will likely be shorter than usual and there will not be a typical amount of independent work during this time. We will transition to our full schedule on 8/31.


  • Curbside lunch pick-up will be available at our school beginning August 17. Between August 17 & August 31, we will be able to serve anyone under 18 years of age. After August 31, we will will only be able to serve K-12 students. A lunch number will be required. Learn more, or apply for food benefits here. (https://www.wcpss.net/Page/1849)



  • If you have a rising kindergarten student, we urge you to go ahead and complete the registration process, so our beginning of the year staffing levels can be as accurate as possible. Please also encourage any new neighbors or relatives to go ahead and register for school as well.


  • Similarly, if you are transitioning to a different school for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible.



  • Laptop and Hotspot Distribution Begins Aug. 17
    WCPSS will begin distributing laptops and hotspots to families who requested them on August 17 from five distribution centers:

    • Apex High
    • Enloe High
    • Knightdale High
    • Leesville Road High
    • South Garner High

    To accommodate social distancing and keep our families, staff, and volunteers safe, families will be assigned a date to collect their requested devices. They will be allowed to pick up their devices from any location on or after their assigned date. Families will receive an email confirming their pick-up date, time, and location.

Families and Schools Together

The Families and Schools Together (FAST) Initiative strives to bring community partners together to help address the childcare crisis facing our community. FAST is a collaboration of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), WakeEd Partnership, and key out of school time childcare providers and community organizations in Wake County. Additionally, Christy's DancExplosion and Heather Park Child Care Center (KinderCare) have shared that they are also offering remote learning solutions for our families.

Single Subject Acceleration

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were forced to close March 13, 2020. The closure of schools prevented students from participating in the testing necessary to qualify for Single Subject Acceleration (SSA). Students are typically tested in the Spring of the previous school year for an accelerated placement for the upcoming school year. As a result of COVID-19, the Advanced Learning Service team has created testing plans to respond to the three instructional environments that may take place during the 2020-2021 school year.
