A glimpse into your child's past week! April 15
What We're Up To:
THANK GOODNESS the weather is turning to SPRING! The kids needed this, and I know I did too! Fresh air does a third grader good. :)
We are entering the last couple of months of third grade. Some days it probably felt like the day would never come, and other days it seems like we've finally got it together... why does it have to end?! 9 Weeks. Please make sure that your involvement in your child's education holds strong, as I know warmer weather makes us ALL a little more carefree.
Each student is bringing home their Third Marking Period Report card today in their Friday Folder. These grades are not much different from when we met at Conferences so there shouldn't be any real surprises.
If you are able to donate, we REALLY are in need of:
- Sharpened Pencils
- Card stock (thick paper)
Also, at the beginning of next month students will need a glass jar, something between the size of a small salsa jar to a spaghetti jar, washed, cleaned and dried with their name on the bottom (sharpie or tape with name labeled). If you have extras, please send them in for students who will need some help with this. THANKS!!!
Interested in joining us at the Zoo?
You must have an up-to-date background check form housed in the office. To confirm that you are "okayed" for the trip, call the office 591-7121. The turnaround time for the processing of background check papers can be a lengthy one, so you must plan ahead!
SCIENCE
We will be learning about plants and animals and our study will culminate with a Field Trip to Potter Park on June 8th. If you are interested in chaperoning the trip, please be proactive and make sure you have had your background check completed through the school. If you are unsure, please call the office at 591-7121.
So far I have Mrs. Inman and Mrs. Bader attending our Zoo trip. I'm not sure how many parents our trip can accommodate at the moment, but we will fill spots on a first come ,first serve basis. Please let me know if you want to go!
SOCIAL STUDIES
MATH
This week we concluded Topic 10, our study on Fractions. Students completed a Review in class on Friday and have brought it home to study over the weekend. The Topic 10 Test will take place on TUESDAY next week.
I have done everything I can possibly think of to help prepare students for this Test. Many seem to have a firm grasp and I anticipate they will do very well. Unfortunately, I still have quite a few that I'm struggling to get to FOCUS to what I'm saying in order to learn the material. We're completed Centers, done small group and partner activities, etc. Students have a couple of different reviews that we completed as a class. They have them in their binder for weekend practice. Just 10 minutes each night will help them have confidence for Tuesday's test.
READING
WRITING
Students have brainstormed a list of possible topics for their upcoming Procedural Text writing. Next week we will begin drafting.
