Las Positas Updates
10/15/23 Volume 3 (11)
Happy Sunday!
I hope you and your family are having a wonderful weekend spending time together. Your children love doing activities with you and receiving your attention. Let them know how much you love and appreciate them. Encourage good choices by saying, "It makes me happy when you ____(fill in the blank with a good behavior)."
Mindfulness Awareness is crucial for our learners. What is mindfulness awareness? It is a way for us to better understand ourselves, our minds, and how we can make better decisions. For example, a child who is aware that they are upset in a situation and know how to take deep breaths to calm themselves can make good decisions in that situation. At school, we recognize the importance of focusing on wellness. On Wednesdays, we practice mindful breathing by taking deep breaths together. Teachers and staff help students recognize their feelings and help them self manage themselves as well as improve social interactions. They also take brain breaks. These are just some examples of how Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) takes place in the school. As our students develop academically, their social and emotional development is just as important, if not more important to their future success and happiness.
When there are moments to model mindfulness awareness, explicitly explain and have a conversation with your child to help develop their social and emotional skills.
In the month of October, we continue to focus on the IB Learner Profile "Inquirer"
The IB Learner Profile aims to develop students who are inquirers. Students who are inquirers nurture their curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. They know how to learn independently and with others. Inquirers learn with enthusiasm and sustain their love of learning throughout life.
Have a great weekend ~

Run for a Claus
Message from Mr. Do regarding "Run for a Claus"
"Hello Las Positas Parents!
As the festive season approaches, we're excited to share an opportunity that combines fun, fitness, and the spirit of giving: The "Run for a Claus" event!
About "Run for a Claus"
The "Run for a Claus" is more than just a race; it's a celebration of community spirit and giving back. Students can either run or walk the designated route, dressed in their favorite festive attire, whether it's Santa hats, reindeer antlers, or even full holiday-themed costumes. The aim is not just to cross the finish line, but to do so while spreading cheer!
Why Should Your Student Participate?
- Physical Fitness: This is a great way for students to stay active and engage in physical exercise in a fun and motivating environment.
- Community Spirit: The event is a fantastic way to foster a sense of community among students, families, and staff. We have multiple staff members who will be running the race with our students.
- Giving Back: A portion of the registration fee and any additional donations will go towards a charitable cause (Salvation Army and Kids Run the OC Foundation), ensuring that our festivities make a positive impact on those in need.
Run for a Claus, which will take place on December 16, 2023 (Saturday) at UC Irvine. There are two races: 1 mile and the 5K. The mile race will take place at 8:30am and the 5k will start at 9:00am. Students can run one of the races or they can run both (please have a conversation with your student to see if they are ready to do both). Parents have the opportunity to run the mile race with their students!
Run For a Claus registration is now open HERE. When registering your student or yourself for the race, please make sure to join the Las Positas school team on the third page of registration! The code KROC5OFF can be applied to full priced adult registration fees (ages 13+) and is for parents who want to run with their student. The registration fee for students ages 6-12 is $20. Prices will increase to $25 for ages 6-12 on October 20, 2023, and again to $30 on November 16, 2023. The registration price for children 5 & under will remain at $10. Parking at UCI will be $20 (carpooling is highly recommended).
If your student does not want to run this race, we have more opportunities throughout the school year!"
