SME newsletter for families and the community
Dear Parents,
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. As we approach the end of the first quarter of the school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our progress and share some important information with you.
First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for your ongoing support in our shared mission to provide the best possible education for your children. It's been a fantastic start to the school year, and we are proud of the dedication and hard work our students have displayed.
Here are some key points regarding the end of the first quarter:
1. Academic Progress: Our students have been actively engaged in their studies, and our teachers have been working tirelessly to provide quality instruction. We will be sending out report cards at the end of this quarter, providing you with a detailed overview of your child's academic performance.
2. Parent-Teacher Conferences: To discuss your child's progress in more detail and address any concerns or questions you may have, feel free to schedule a parent-teacher conference in the coming weeks. Your teacher may also reach out to you to schedule this.
3. Extracurricular Activities: Our school is committed to providing a well-rounded education, and we encourage students to participate in activities. If your child is not yet involved in any, I encourage you to explore the opportunities we offer and speak with our staff about getting them engaged.
4. Feedback and Communication: Your feedback is invaluable to us. If you have any concerns or suggestions regarding your child's education or our school community, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our administrative team. We are here to listen and improve continuously.
We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education, and please know that we are here to support you every step of the way.
Wishing you a wonderful end to the first quarter and a fantastic remainder of the school year.
Best of the Nest
Each month at Six Mile Elementary, we focus on different character traits and talk about ways to show those traits to others. We discuss the trait in morning meeting in our classrooms. We spotlight the trait on the school news show. Mrs. Orr, our guidance counselor, goes into classrooms and does special lessons with the trait. At the end of each month, we have a Best of the Nest party to honor those students who "shine" in that area.
In August, our character trait was Creativity. In September, our character trait is Friendship. Friendship is using our words or actions to show others we care. We will have our Best of the Nest party on the first Friday of the following month and students attending will be featured on our social media pages.
Papa Johns Fundraiser
The SME PTO is selling gift cards for Papa Johns from 9/11 - 9/25. Please see the flyer that came home with details. The class that sells the most gets a PJ Pizza Party.
Absence Notes
If your student is absent, you have three days to send a note stating the reason for their absence before it is counted unexcused. You can send a handwritten note or you can email Stephanie Merck at stephaniemerck@pickens.k12.sc.us. You can also email your child's teacher.
When students have accumulated 3 absences in a row without a note, Mrs. Plyler will have to schedule a meeting for an Attendance Conference. Please make sure to get your note in so that this does not happen.
