Music Department Updates!
CB South's Brass Quintet
This week the CB South Bands’ Brass Quintet recorded arrangements of our Fight Song and Alma Mater. The quintet is very thankful to Mr. Pecic, for allowing them to use the Library so they could spread out and have more than 6ft of space on all sides of each performer. Our students utilize specialized musician masks for themselves and their instruments to help mitigate the spread of aerosols. They are excited to share the recordings with the CB South Community very soon!
Music In Our Schools Month
For more than 30 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. Our CB South Music Department has been working tirelessly to find safe alternatives to their typical performance and practice schedules during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we cannot host big concerts yet, we are looking forward to a few solo and small ensemble performances from the Band, Orchestra, and Choir students as we end our school day. Once a week, there will be live music performed as students make their way to the buses in the front of the school. We will also be sharing different videos of virtual performances from our different ensembles throughout the month of March!

CB South Celebrates Black History Month!
In honor and recognition of Black History Month, the CB South Staff spent the month of February working in collaboration with their departmental teams to identify individuals of the Black community who have been innovators in their respective fields, each ultimately having an impact on the teaching and learning of our students here at CB South. We have put together a short video highlighting the individuals selected by each department.
We hope you enjoy - CB South Celebrates Black History Month
Important Information From The Guidance Office!
AP Exam Registration Information
Once students have completed digital activation (joining) their AP classes, they must pay for the exams in My Payments Plus beginning January 8, 2021 (8am) through February 28, 2021 (11:59pm).
AP teachers will assist students logging into their College Board AP class sections and joining the teacher’s class. Students in 1st marking period classes should have completed this by November 2020. Students whose AP classes started 2nd marking period or 2nd semester (February 1, 2021) will need to complete their digital activation and joining by February 28, 2021.
Payment Deadline: To pay for AP Examinations, please visit www.MyPaymentsPlus.com from Friday, January 8th through Sunday, February 28, 2021. Through this site, you will be able to view all available exams and registration dates and make AP exam payments for all students in the same household in one transaction.
Students have access to AP resources through their AP teachers’ sections. This year, all student College Board AP exam indicators within their College Board AP section will be automatically set to “YES”. The “YES” indicator means that the students will be tentatively scheduled to take the exam and an exam will be ordered for them. However, if the exam is not paid for, the exam indicator will be changed to “NO”. All registrations must be completed by February 28th to properly process AP orders. College Board has also waived any cancellation and/or unused test fees for this school year. However, if the exam is not paid for by February 28, 2021, College Board will be charging a late exam order fee of $40 per exam.
Payment/Additional Fees: The cost is $100 per exam, which includes the registration fee.
Withdrawing from an Exam: Please note that exams must be taken on the College Board scheduled day. If you are no longer able to take an exam for which you have already registered, an email or letter from a parent/guardian to Mr. Thomas Hill (thill@cbsd.org) is required at least 48 hours prior to the exam. Your maximum refund will be $100 per exam.
Financial Aid: Students who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program are eligible for a reduced exam fee. The adjusted fee will be reflected in your My Payments Plus account when you log in.
Technical support: If you experience technical issues with your account, or forget your login or password, please contact My Payments Plus, Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM at (877) 237-0946.

Time was given to all seniors on December 23rd to complete these tasks. If you have not yet completed the Success Plan tasks, please refer to instructions on the Success Plan Website or contact Dr. Lash at kalash@cbsd.org with questions. The Senior Survey portion may be completed at a later date since admissions decisions and final matriculation decisions may not be made until later this spring.

SCHOLARSHIPS IN NAVIANCE
As application season winds down, scholarship season picks up! Aside from the various scholarship databases students can use to find scholarship opportunities, we strongly recommend that seniors visit the Scholarship List in Naviance every week for newly added scholarships. Many of the posts are LOCAL scholarships, meaning the scholarships are looking for candidates in our school, district, or region.
FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION FOR COLLEGE
Seniors and their families are encouraged to utilize the resources on the Financial Aid Page of the Guidance Website for information regarding the financial aid process and FAFSA.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS & RECORDS REQUESTS
Seniors should refer to the resources on the College Application Process Page of the Guidance Website for specific information on how to request records for college applications. The process is done through their Naviance account.
Pre-ACT For Sophomores
CB South will be offering the Pre-ACT to our 10th grade students on Saturday, March 20th. This test, similar to the PSAT, gives students the opportunity to take a test comparable to the ACT as a practice test. To those who are not familiar with the ACT, it is used by every college as part of the admissions process the same way as the SAT. All colleges accept the ACT in place of or in addition to the SAT. We recommend that students plan on taking the SAT and/or the ACT for the first time during the spring of Junior Year. For students selecting the Pre-ACT, this will give them ample time to complete any test prep they might need. The test will cover reading, English, mathematics, and science.
If your student is interested in participating in the Pre-ACT, registration begins February 8 and closes March 8, 2021. The test will be given on Saturday, March 20, 2020 at 8 AM sharp.
On test day, students should plan to arrive no later than 7:40 AM and we expect the test to be completed no later than 11:30 AM. Registration is done simply by paying the cost in My Payments Plus- there is no additional registration form. Students are expected to bring their own #2 pencils, calculator, and masks will be required along with social distancing.
The cost of the test is $30.00 and payment must be made through MyPaymentsPlus. Once on the website, click on CB South Activities, then Pre-ACT.
If you have any questions, please contact Sophomore House Counselors Mr. Hill-students A-K (thill@cbsd.org) or Mrs. McGroggan-students L-Z (mmcgroggan@cbsd.org), or Mrs. Barrett-test facilitator (tbarrett@cbsd.org).
2021-2022 Program Planning For Current Sophomores and Juniors
The Student Course Registration Portal has closed. Counselors will now review all course requests that students have entered into the Portal to ensure that the correct courses were selected and they meet district requirements for graduation. Verifications will be available online March 26th–March 31st so families can review/confirm course requests one last time. Students will be permitted to make changes until Thursday April 1st by contacting their counselor by email or by making an appointment via Teams. Students will not be able to make changes after this date unless these changes meet the requirements set out in the district’s Critical Course Change criteria (see Program of Studies).
TIMELINE
February/March - Counselors review course requests
March 26 - Verification of course requests available on portal
April 1- LAST DAY for course request changes

Boys' and Girls' Swimming and Diving
The Girls' Swimming and Diving Team got their District Championship meet started off in the best possible way, with senior Alexandra Charlton winning the District 1 meet in diving. The Diving Championships were held last weekend at North Penn. The District 1 Swimming Championships are to be held this weekend in York, PA. Alexandra automatically qualifies for the PIAA State Championship meet in diving, which is to be held March 13th. Only District Champions in the state of PA are qualifying for the state meet this year, so Alexandra did a great job under a lot of pressure to get to the final level for diving in the state of PA. Great job Alexandra!
The swimmers who are competing this Friday are Seniors Haley Scholer (200 and 400 free relay, 200 IM, and 100 back), Julia Riegel (200 and 400 free relay, 200 IM, and 100 breast), Ryan Kircher (200 and 100 free), Kaylin Goodling (200 and 400 free relay), and Chloe Matsick (200 and 400 free relay); sophomore Riley Reteneller (500 free), and freshman Elena Dudkina (100 back). Good luck, Titan swimmers!
Wrestling
It’s the most exciting time of the year as the PIAA Wrestling postseason kicks off. Universally recognized as the toughest State Tournament in the nation year in and year out, 2 Titan wrestlers were up for the challenge which began with the 1st round of District 1 North Sectional Tournament at Quakertown. Freshman 126lb capt. Jake Neill went 1-2 battling through injury to finish his matches. Jake won his QF bout (4-2 SV) over Upper Perk with a slick drag go-behind Takedown in Sudden Victory Overtime. In his next two bouts he fought through injury to complete a 15-4 freshman campaign.
At 120lbs, Sophomore captain, Gabe Whittington started off the day with a 2nd period fall over Abington. The pin was Gabe’s 12th of the season and 15th win by bonus this season. In the Semi-Finals, Gabe won his rubber match with North Penn’s Michael Cliver 9-3. He took an early 5 pt lead with a feet to back Pancake in the 1st period while adding 2 more takedowns later in the match. Gabe fell in the finals to Todd McGann of Quakertown and finished 2nd but was able to punch his ticket to the next round of the postseason at the South East Regional Tournament this weekend at Council Rock North. Follow the tournament results LIVE at trackwrestling.com. LET GO GABE!!!
Girls' Basketball
The Lady Titans are coming off a rough patch from the weekend; losing a hard fought game at Pennsbury on Saturday and Tuesday night again district rival CB West. The girls look to get back to their winning ways this weekend. Thursday the girls will travel to Quakertown for a 5:30 JV game and a 7:00 V game. Friday night the girls will host Council Rock North with a 5:30 JV game and a 7:00 varsity game. To end the regular season the girls will host Wissahickon High School for a 5:30 JV game and a 7:00 varsity game. Good luck, Titans!
Boys' Basketball
The Titans played William Tennent on Saturday in a close game throughout. Down 18-17 at half-time, the Titans won the 3rd (by 5 points) and 4th quarter (by 3 points). The Team went 21 for 25 from the free throw line and Michael Farley led all scorers with 20 points. Titans win 49-42.
On Tuesday, the Titans traveled to CB West for a league game. It was a typical rival game between both schools as it went back and forth throughout the game, including overtime. The Bucks pulled off the win with a late, go ahead 3 pointer. The Titans had a 3 point look to win the game, but it didn’t fall through. Titans took the loss 44-43 and are currently 7-5 overall and 16th in the district power rankings.
The Titans travel Friday to CR North and then host CB East on Saturday. The Titans conclude the regular season on the road to Wissahickon on March 2nd.
