Our Mission:
A Note from Miss Pape
Dear Lincoln Families,
It's hard to believe the holidays and new year are just around the corner. As we head into Winter Break, I wish all of our Lincoln families happiness and good health!
Lincoln has had many fun activities going on at school the past few weeks including making our schoolwide goal of being respectful and using kind words to earn a directed drawing, hosting the district's first ever BIlingual Ukrainian Parent event, and completing our classroom and school Spelling Bees! Congratulations to all students who participated in the contest! We also hosted an assembly - the first in many years! Our students did a great job engaging in this exciting presentation by Matt Wilhelm, a BMX champion, who talked about spreading kindness, being an upstander, and perseverance.
As a reminder, Winter Break for District 15 runs from Thursday, December 22 through Sunday, January 8. We return to school on Monday, January 9th. Addtionally, Wednesday, January 11 is a half day of school for Bilingual Kindergarten and grades 1-8. On this day, students will dismiss at 11:25 am. Monolingual Kindergarten does not have school on the 11th.
I hope you all enjoy the Winter Break and look forward to seeing you back in the new year!
Best,
Ellen Pape

Cold Weather: Please Dress Appropriately
Cold Weather is nearing. Please send students to school dressed for the weather. Students must have on winter boots and snow pants to play in the snow at recess time. With the chilly temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with the appropriate winter clothing (Hats, Gloves, Scarves, Winter Coat, Snow Pants, Snow Boots). Please contact your child's teacher or the office if you need assistance providing the appropriate winter clothing for your child.
Arrival and Recess in D15
Students generally line up outside for arrival and go outside for recess every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide playground supervision. If students are not following behavior expectations, a staff member will address the behavior with the student(s). Based on the behavior, the child may speak to an administrator.
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
January Behavior Expectations Refresh
While we are eagerly looking forward to some relaxing time off during winter break, District 15 teachers are hard at work planning for learning in January. When we return from break, every school in the district will be reviewing school-wide expectations and engaging in station rotations, where students visit locations throughout the school and discuss appropriate behavior and expectations, such as the hallway, bathroom, and lunchroom. Classroom teachers will also review behavior expectations and classroom routines to ensure students are reminded of what is needed and expected at school.
You can support this work at home as well!
As you prepare to return to school from break, have a conversation with your child about school behavior expectations. Talk about what it looks and sounds like to be respectful, responsible, and safe at school, on the bus, on the playground, in the lunchroom, and in the hallway. Small reminders, support, and encouragement about behavior can have a big impact on how students return to learning in January.
Instrumental Music Registration
Are you interested in your 4th or 5th grader participating in Instrumental Music next school year? Registration is now open! Go to the CCSD 15 Campus Parent page at:

Student Absences & Tardies
We start our day learning at 8:25 am every day. Please be sure that your student arrives on time to school each day. Students have an arrival window of 8:10-8:25 am each day. Students who arrive on a late bus due to the bus driver shortage are marked as "excused" in our attendance system as the late buses are currently out of our control.

Cold & Flu Information
Dear Parent or Guardian:
Cold and flu season is upon us and we are seeing a large number of students with flu symptoms. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines.
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
Very stuffy or runny nose and/or a cough
Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Headache
Mild stomach ache
Chills
General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
Definitely keep your child at home and consider seeking medical attention if he or she has any of these symptoms:
Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth. Your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications)
Vomiting (even once)
Diarrhea
Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
Shortness of breath
Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
To help prevent the flu and other colds, please teach your children good hygiene habits:
Wash hands frequently
Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
The flu shot is one of the best ways to prevent illness from the seasonal influenza virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends adults and children receive the flu vaccine each year. Yearly flu vaccination is needed because immunity against the flu wears off over time. In addition, the flu virus strains often change, so the vaccine also changes from year-to-year in order to match the flu viruses expected to be circulating in the community.
Colds and Flu are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until “fever free” for a minimum of 24 hours.
Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin), it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether or not they should attend school. Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities upon return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will help minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
Sincerely,
School Health Services
