Charger Check-In
October 21, 2021
A Note from Ms. Owens
Thank you to all the students, families, faculty and staff for your flexibility and patience during today's seal-coating on our North Lot and our Main Lot. We moved all recesses to our South Lot which meant rerouting how students got to recess, how they got to Kane Hall and how they got back to their classrooms. And our afternoon dismissal out different doors was complete well within 10 minutes! Again, thank you for helping to make this day go so very smoothly. And thank you to our parish Facilities Committee for all they do to keep our school and church safe and sound!
Tomorrow, our Student Council is hosting our Fall Pep Rally for the whole school community. We will be gathering in the Main Lot with the rally starting at 1PM and we expect it will last about an hour. Students will be seated with their homerooms.
- All students, faculty and staff are welcome to show off their Charger Pride by wearing school spirit apparel or their athletic jersey/uniform. Bottoms can be joggers, jeans, sweats, leggings or other school-appropriate clothing.
- Please note the forecast shows temperatures in the high 50s and an overcast sky. Be sure your student has appropriate clothing for the pep rally as we expect to be outside for about an hour.
- Parents who would like to come are welcome to attend; however, we ask that parents stay in the designated area (you'll see chairs set out for you) during the rally.
- Our student leaders have worked hard to plan this event and we are looking forward to seeing them shine!
I am so happy to welcome Bridget Marneris to the teaching staff at St. Catherine. Mrs. Marneris is an SCA mom and is joining us as a long-term sub teaching PE classes two days per week! This was her first week and I know students enjoyed their classes with her! Mrs. Arundel and Mrs. Marneris will make a great team providing physical education to our students.
On a more serious note, I want to share information about a popular new series on Netflix called, Squid Game. Although the series has significant popularity among teens and tweens, I encourage families to review the content of the series. Below, I have included a link from Common Sense Media, a reliable source for parent-friendly reviews of movies, television shows, website, etc.
As we continue to live with the pandemic, we have made a change to our All-School Masses. If you attended one of our Friday Masses this year, you know that our student body takes up every pew in church, including the choir loft. Unfortuately, that seating arrangement still did not allow us to keep 3 feet of distance between students and this led to some students moving to quarantine due to sitting next to a person who tested positive for Covid-19. Because of this, we have made the decision to move to a rotating schedule with our K-4th grades attending Mass in person one week and our 5th-8th grades attending Mass in person the next. Those classes not in church will participate in Mass from their classrooms. This is not a decision we came to lightly as celebrating Eucharist as a whole school community is an important element of who we are as a community of faith. We look forward to returning to true All-School Masses once the distancing requirements have been lifted.

Red Ribbon Week
This year’s theme is "Drug Free Looks Like Me."
DID YOU KNOW?
- Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.
- Red Ribbon Week (October 23-31), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started.
- Visit the button below to learn more about Red Ribbon Week and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs. The life you save may be that of your own child or a dear friend.
- At school, students will engage in activities that promote a drug free and healthy lifestyle.
Please partner with us and discuss this message at home, at the dinner table, at family outings, and with friends and extended family.
