Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.
Daniel Wright students honored Martin Luther King Jr. with song, watching his "I have a Dream" speech, and reading about his influence on society through boycotts, marches, and historic Supreme Court cases. The DW chorus performed We Shall Overcome, a song that had a prominent role in the Civil Rights Movement.
"On significant occasions like this, it's imperative that we leverage music's ability to communicate universal messages; further, our students in the DW Choirs program benefit from opportunities for community and civic engagement," said Choral Director Matthew Clark. He added, "We are honored to share our performance, and we invite you to join us in this important observance."
MAP Testing Next Week
Next week Daniel Wright students will take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. The MAP assessment consists of both Reading and Math portions, and is one of the ways teachers and administrators collect data on student academic growth throughout the school year. The collected data can then be used to help cater instruction and support for the specific needs of each student.
- Please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep and a good breakfast before coming to school on test day.
- Test Days: Tuesday, Jan. 25 (whole school) and Wednesday, Jan. 26 (6th & 7th grade only). Make ups will be offered at the end of next week.
- You will receive the results of the winter assessment in late February.
This school year, students will be taking the MAP assessment three times; once during the Fall Trimester, once during the Winter Trimester, and once during the Spring Trimester. We do not normally administer MAP in the winter, but decided to do so this year in order to closely monitor for any possible effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on learning.

We are asking for your support to help us keep this event going. If you have previously attended and enjoyed the 5K, please consider volunteering for the core 5K committee (planning and organization).
5K Committee meetings are a fun way to participate in the PTO and give back to the schools.
And yes, you can volunteer to help out and still run at the event!
Please email 5k@d103pto.org if you are interested in helping out and we will reach out with more information.
