In Italy

A religious tradition

It falls on January 6th. It is a Christian holiday that celebrates the revelation of Christ the son of God. Christians principally commomerate the visit of the Magi to Baby Jesus. they brought him gold, incense and myrrh.

In Italy on the evening of January 5th, children leave a stocking under the Christmas tree or near the fire place. During the night the "Befana", an old woman, puts  some sweets and fruit into the stocking, if the child has been good or coal if he has been bad. when the children wake up, they see the stocking full of sweets and they eat them.
