Notes from Dr. Irvin

Your WGHS Weekly eNews for February 13

Hello Parents and Guardians,

This spring, parent conferences will be a combination of scheduled and unscheduled, or “walk-up.” You will be getting more information on this soon, but we will host a window of scheduled conference times using the online program PTCFast that many of you may have used in previous schools. All conferences will still be the recommended seven minutes that has been allotted for each conference in previous years. For walk-up times, sign-up sheets will be available on each teacher’s table for parents to register if they wish to see that teacher.

Another feature is that we will invite parents to schedule conferences in two tiers. Students that are currently having a failing grade in a course will have the earliest window on February 19, while all parents will have access on February 26. Links to sign up will be shared via email and later on our website. All parents will have the option to use times that are unscheduled on all days we are offering conferences this spring. Again, we will share more detailed information as we get closer. Below is an outline and format of our spring conferences:

Monday, March 9

5 - 7 p.m.: Scheduled via PTCFast

7 - 8 p.m.: Walk-up

Tuesday, March 10

5 - 7 p.m.: Scheduled via PTCFast

7 - 8 p.m.: Walk-up

Wednesday, March 11

12:50—2:45 p. m.: Walk-up

Best,

Matt Irvin

Celebrations/Announcements

Juniors Take the ACT and Watch Angst on February 25

All Juniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, February 25 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. This test is paid for by WGSD, and students do not need to register online.

Due to the early release on February 5 because of inclement weather, we were unable to present the film, Angst, to our juniors. The response to the film has been very positive among staff, students, and community, and we feel that our junior class will certainly benefit by seeing the film. We will present the film to all juniors on Tuesday, February 25 during 7th hour. We feel showing the film on this date will be the least intrusive on instructional time.

The schedule for February 25 is as follows:

8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ACT Test

12:35 p.m. – 2:40 p.m. Lunch, additional programming and Angst screening

As always, we are here to listen, help, and support. Please contact your child’s assistant principal’s office if you have any questions or concerns.

Senior Parents: Get Your Dancing Shoes On!

Senior Parents: It’s a WGHS tradition for the senior parents to put on a line dance at the graduation lock-in. This is a great chance to spend that last bit of time with the other 2020 parents — and maybe embarrass your graduate a little in the process. No dance background or rhythm needed. It’s all for fun! The lock-in is overnight May 12/13, and the dance is expected to happen at about 12:45 a.m. We will offer several rehearsals after spring break so that hopefully anyone interested in participating can make it to at least a couple. If you want to join in this fun tradition, let us know via email (kmoehlman@hotmail.com) so we can add you to our list.
